MSc Food Security Policy and Management Scholarships
CUBS will offer full scholarships to two students from developing countries on the 2020/21 intake of the MSc Food Security Policy and Management.
The scholarships – open to students who are citizens of, and normally resident in, developing countries – include tuition fees, return airfare to Ireland, and a stipend of €1,000 per month for a year.
‘Food insecurity and malnutrition present enormous challenges worldwide, with one in three of the world’s population experiencing malnutrition,’ says Dr Nick Chisholm, director of the MSc programme. ‘Climate change is adding to the severity of the challenge.’
‘There is an urgent need to expand the capacity to tackle these problems through well-designed policies and programme interventions.
These scholarships will enable two highly-motivated students from developing countries to gain the skills and knowledge to make a real impact on these issues in their professional lives.
We are delighted to be able to make this opportunity available to students who otherwise would not be in a financial position to pursue the programme.’
The MSc Food Security Policy and Management is the first of its kind in Ireland, and one of the few courses in the world specifically focused on food security policy in the context of international development. It provides an opportunity to graduates to gain a qualification in a specialised field that is of growing importance to policy institutes, NGOs and development agencies worldwide. The MSc programme includes a collaboration with the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), one of the leading institutes globally addressing food security and nutrition issues.
To be eligible for the scholarships, students must first be offered a place on the MSc in Food Security Policy and Management (CKL04) by applying via the PAC portal. Entry requirements for the programme can be found on the programme page. Applicants for the scholarships should apply by email to Ms Niamh Kiely (n.kiely@ucc.ie), using the subject heading ‘MSc Food Security Scholarships’, with the following:
· Evidence that they have applied online to the MSc Food Security Policy and Management;
· A motivational statement (max. 300 words) outlining their suitability to be considered for a scholarship;
· Contact details of two referees.
The deadline for applications is Friday 29th May, 2020, with successful applicants to be informed in mid June.
