Call for Applications: Deutschland Scholarship at the University of Mannheim for the Academic Year 2017/2018

In accordance with the Act on German Scholarship Program (StipG) and with the Statutes of the University of Mannheim on Awarding the Deutschland Scholarship, the President’s Office of the University of Mannheim issues the following Call of Applications for the academic year 2017/2018 for scholarships in the funding period from 1 August 2017 to 31 July 2018. Each scholarship amounts to EUR 300 per month and is funded by a private funding provider and by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), 50 percent, respectively. The scholarships are awarded to promote talent and performance. Scholarship holders will be chosen by the selection committee of the respective school of the university. Applicants will receive a notification of the decision regarding their application.

The number of scholarships to be awarded depends on the amount donated by private funding providers. The University of Mannheim strives to award 180 scholarships. However, this information is subject to change. During the funding period 2016/2017, the university was able to award 179 Deutschland Scholarships.

Two thirds of scholarships may be awarded as purpose-specific scholarships for special fields or programs according to section 11 subsection 3(1) of StipG. Taking into account purpose-specific scholarships and the respective pool of applicants, the university aims to distribute the scholarships among the schools and departments proportionally.

Application for the Deutschland Scholarship is open to enrolled students of all fields pursuing a bachelor’s, master’s, or state examination degree within the standard period of study as well as applicants for one the these programs at the University of Mannheim.

According to section 4 of StipG, double funding is excluded. This means that the scholarship cannot be granted to applicants who already receive talent-related and performance-related material funding by the Begabtenförderungswerk (organization for the promotion of young talent), the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the Stiftung Begabtenförderung berufliche Bildung (SBB) or other German or foreign institutions. If the total amount of the granted funding per semester does not exceed an average amount of EUR 30/month, it does not count as double funding.

Only applications in due time and form with all documents required will be taken into account. Subsequent submission of individual proofs is not possible.
