ABOUT THE SUMMER SCHOOL

The Antall József Summer School will be organised for the seventh time in 2019. With the help of national and international experts, the project examines the most important issues affecting the Visegrad Cooperation and the Central European region from various perspectives. In addition, AJSS provides a thorough picture of the Central European intellectual and cultural heritage, as well as facilitates and supports intercultural learning through different cultural programmes.

Who can apply?

Motivated young professionals who are interested in Central European Studies, the Visegrad Cooperation, and the region in general. We accept applications from all fields of social sciences, humanities, economics, and legal studies. MA and PhD students, young experts and early–career professionals of international relations, political science, security studies, regional studies, economics and other research areas are eligible to apply

Age limit: 23-35

Educational background: MA, PhD (both for ongoing and finished)

NOTE: Registration fee: 80 EUR (paid by bank transfer, only after the application was selected)

  • a reference letter (signed, in PDF)
  • a proof of English proficiency (language exam certificate (C1/advanced) or diploma, in PDF)
  • online application form submitted through our website, which includes the following questions.

Questions

  • What are your professional as well as personal motivations regarding the Antall József Summer School? Why would you like to participate in this year’s programme? (350 characters)
  • Which of the AJSS 2019 programmes/lectures do you look forward to the most? Please briefly explain to help us better understand your motivations. (300 characters)
  • What do you think are the biggest challenges the Visegrad Countries will have to tackle in the next five years? Please mention at least 1 challenge for each country. (800 characters)
  • What are the three biggest European and the three biggest global trends (positive or negative), which will have important effects on Central Europe in the near future? Please briefly explain why you consider these trends important in regards to this region. (800 characters)

Choose one of the following questions (see below): 

  • Please shortly define what the notion of security means to you personally. Not strictly in military terms, but rather in general and most importantly from your personal perspective.
  • What do you think, why are regional cooperations important? Please briefly contextualise your statement, and choose one regional cooperation as an example. (800 characters) 

Please note that without answering one of these questions, your application will not be taken into consideration.

What does AJSS offer?

For selected participants we offer two kinds of scholarships:

Scholarship type 1:

  • Accommodation with breakfast included
  • Lunch
  • Travel costs (the most economic and direct options)

Scholarship type 2:

  • Accommodation with breakfast included
  • Lunch

Please note that the Knowledge Centre does not cover the costs of visa application (where applicable) and insurance for any of the participants (regardless of the scholarship granted).

The recruitment for this programme will be conducted on a competitive basis. All applicants will be notified about the results via e-mail.
