Summer School - The Art and Science of Qualitative Analysis, 2022, The Università della Svizzera italiana, Switzerland

Publish Date: Apr 10, 2022

Deadline: Jul 15, 2022

Event Dates: from Aug 22, 2022 12:00 to Aug 26, 2022 12:00

The aim of this workshop is to examine different aspects of non-numeric data analysis techniques, including: variations, possibilities, and limits of qualitative data analysis; assumptions and biases in qualitative research; data preparation for qualitative analysis; analysis of different types of non-numeric data (including interview transcripts, documents, newspaper and social media, diaries, non-financial reports, and focus group data). The analysis part of the workshop will mainly cover qualitative content and thematic analyses, but we will also touch on the role of qualitative research in case studies, grounded theory, transdisciplinary research, and within a mixed methods research design. Finally, we will recommend presentation and publication strategies for qualitative researchers.
Throughout the week, daily exercises on how to prepare and analyze non-numeric data will be an important part of the course. The participants are invited to work on their own data during the course.

A background in the social sciences or related fields, and preparatory readings are recommended.
