The Government of the Slovak Republic each year awards scholarships for developing countries’ students. These scholarships support full-time higher education study (Bachelor, Master and Postgraduate or Doctoral) conducted in the Slovak language in a chosen field of study according to the applicable system of study programmes at public universities in the SR. The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of merit. For academic year 2015/2016, applications will close on 28th May 2015.
 
Study Subject(s): Scholarships are awarded for Teacher Training and Education Science, Social and Behavioral Sciences, Business and Administration, Ecological and Environmental Sciences; Building Engineering, Manufacturing and Communication; Agriculture, Forestry, Veterinary, Water Resource Management, Medical Sciences, Dental Surgery, Pharmaceutical Sciences and Non-Medical Health Sciences (all subjects are not available to all countries).
Course Level: Scholarships are available for full-time higher education study (Bachelor, Master and Postgraduate or Doctoral) conducted in the Slovak language in a chosen field of study according to the applicable system of study programmes at public universities in the SR.

Eligibility:  
Scholarship for Study in 1st and 2nd Degree Higher Education Study Programmes (Hereafter Refereed to as Bachelor, Master and Postgraduate Study) in the SR: Persons applying for an SR Government scholarship for bachelor, master or postgraduate higher education study programmes in the framework of the SR Government’s offer must meet the following conditions:
a) have attained complete secondary education completed by a school-leaving exam.  The document on education acquired abroad must be assessed by the Centre for Recognition of Diplomas (Centre for Recognition of Diplomas) of the SR Ministry of Education, Science, Research & Sport at Stromová 1, 813 30 Bratislava;
b) meet the conditions for acceptance for higher education study pursuant to Act no. 131/2002 Coll. on universities and on the amendment of certain acts, as amended, at website;
c) submit a completed application form for an SR Government scholarship with the relevant attachments;
d) candidates of 18 to 26 years of age may apply for an SR Government scholarship.

 

Scholarship for Study in 3rd Degree Higher Education Study Programmes (Hereafter Refereed to as Doctoral Study) in the SR: Persons applying for a scholarship for doctoral study in the framework of the SR Government’s offer must meet the following requirements:
a) Have completed higher education in a second degree study programme (having acquired the academic title “MSc.” at a foreign university or “Mgr.”, “Ing.”, “MUDr.” or “MVDr.” at a university in the SR). The document on education acquired abroad must be assessed by the Centre for Recognition of Diplomas (Stredisko na uznávanie dokladov o vzdelaní) of the SR Ministry of Education, Science, Research & Sport at Stromová 1, 813 30 Bratislava. Its opinion must be attached to the application for an SR Government scholarship submitted by the applicant for assessment to the selection committee of the SR Ministry of Education, Science, Research & Sport;
b) Meet the conditions for admission to the third degree higher education study programme pursuant to Act no. 131/2002 Coll. on universities and on the amendment of certain acts, as amended;
c) Submit a completed application for an SR Government scholarship, stating the study field of the doctoral study according to the applicable list of doctoral study programmes conducted in the SR, with a letter of preliminary acceptance from the expected teaching workplace in the SR, as well as with the relevant annexes;
d) Candidates of 23 to 35 years of age may apply for an SR Government scholarship.

Scholarship Description: The provision of the SR Government scholarships is a long-term part of SR development aid, which is a programme and project activity of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Slovak Republic within the framework of the international community. Act No. 617/2007 on Official Development Aid of the Slovak Republic , which created the foundation for institutionalized arrangements for the provision of official development aid (hereinafter the “ODA”) in all its forms was passed in 2007. In order to ensure the coordination of the procedures of individual providers of the SR development aid the SR Government adopted the Medium-term strategy for development cooperation of the Slovak Republic for the years 2014-2018 and The Focus of the Bilateral Development Cooperation of the Slovak Republic for 2015, by which was imposed in paragraph B.2. of the Government Resolution no. 26/2015 to the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sport of the SR to ensure the financial resources for bilateral development cooperation, which is provided in the form of provision of scholarships of the Government of the Slovak Republic in accordance with the territorial and sectoral focus and the terms of the OECD.
Number of award(s): Up to 48 Slovak Government scholarships are available (40 scholarships for study 1st and 2nd Degree Higher Education Study Programmes (Hereafter Refereed to as Bachelor, Master and Postgraduate Study) and 8 scholarships for Study in 3rd Degree Higher Education Study Programmes (Hereafter Refereed to as Doctoral Study) in the SR).
Duration of award(s): The SR Ministry of Education, Science, Research & Sport shall provide a foreigner an SR Government scholarship during the standard length of study.
What does it cover?

a) One-off payment during language and vocational training, first and second degrees of higher education
-upon beginning study in the SR: €35
-upon completing study in the SR: €100
b) One-off payment during the third degree of higher education
-upon beginning study in the SR: €35

Scholarship for Study in 1st and 2nd Degree Higher Education Study Programmes (Hereafter Refereed to as Bachelor, Master and Postgraduate Study) in the SR: The holder of an SR Government scholarship shall receive, for the period of study as set by the statute of the respective university in the selected study field, i.e. at the time when he/she, pursuant to national legislation, is a is a higher education student:
-the monthly scholarship grant in the set amount,
-accommodation in a student hall of residence and catering in student canteens for payment equal to that of a student with SR citizenship,
-education at the chosen public university under conditions equal to those of a student with SR citizenship pursuant to the conditions set by the university’s statute,
-an SR Government scholarship for 10-month language and vocational training, in the case that the applicant has not completed secondary education in the SR or at a secondary school with Slovak language tuition abroad.  Completion by a final exam is required and does not replace the university admission procedure pursuant to Act no. 131/2002 Coll. on universities and on the amendment of certain acts, as amended.

 

Scholarship for Study in 3rd Degree Higher Education Study Programmes (Hereafter Refereed to as Doctoral Study) in the SR: The holder of an SR Government scholarship shall receive, for the period of study as set by the statute of the respective university in the selected study field, i.e. at the time when he/she, pursuant to national legislation, is a doctoral student:
a) the monthly scholarship grant in the set amount,
b) accommodation in a student hall of residence and catering in student canteens for payment equal to that of a student with SR citizenship,
c) education at the chosen public university equal to that for students with SR citizenship during the study period set by the university’s statute,
d) an SR Government scholarship for 10-month language training in the case that the applicant has not completed 2nd degree 2nd degree university study in the SR. Completion by a final exam is required and does not replace the university admission procedure for study in a 3rd degree study programme pursuant to Act no. 131/2002 Coll. on universities and on the amendment of certain acts, as amended.

 

Selection Criteria: The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of merit.
Notification: SR Government scholarship for the standard period of university study in the SR and shall announce its scholarship grant decision by 31 August of the calendar year. Results of the selection proceedings shall be available in electronic form at website after 15 July of the calendar year. The sending party or recipient of the scholarship is obliged to notify the host university and the SR Ministry of Education, Science, Research & Sport no later than two weeks prior to the date of arrival in the SR.
Online Application: The application is available in electronic form at website. The sending party of electronically sent applications shall submit their nominations in the prescribed manner (in electronic form) via the SR Embassy in the respective country no later than by 31st May of the respective year to the address specified in the notification letter from the SR Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Nominations of Slovaks living abroad are submitted by the respective compatriot organisation. A nomination is valid only for the year when it was issued.
Scholarship Application Deadline: For the academic year 2015/2016 is possible to send application electronically by 28th May 2015.
