Summer School - Back to the Roots of Ecological Economics, 2022, University of Pisa, Italy

Publish Date: Mar 12, 2022

Deadline: Mar 31, 2022

Event Dates: from Jun 11, 2022 12:00 to Jul 14, 2022 12:00

Introduction
This course will cover both theoretical and applied topics.
The participants will be introduced to the thought of scholars who are considered to be the forefathers of ecological economics and the degrowth movement. Georgescu Roegen and his epistemology, based on process philosophy, will be at center stage. Nonetheless, the presentation of other important authors will highlight the rich diversity of the whole theoretical picture.
This will serve as the basis to critically discuss some of the major challenges of a fair transition towards sustainability in the new post-COVID epoch.
Activities will be held intensively throughout the day, combining lectures, discussions, and group work. Some special sessions will give participants the opportunity of interacting with the students attending the “Sustainable transitions in employment, economic welfare, and the environment” and the “POE” summer schools.

Aim
The course aims to provide participants with the founding epistemological and analytical tools in Ecological Economics. This will help with both, understanding the current sustainability challenges and the recent evolutions in the post-growth/degrowth ideas.
