Imomoh Scholarship

The Imomoh Scholarship was endowed to the SPE Foundation by Egbert Imomoh to support excellence in education for students from the Africa Region. The recipients will be awarded a single payment of USD 2,000

Eligibility

  • Must be pursuing a master’s degree in petroleum engineering
  • Must be from a country in the SPE Africa Region
  • Comply with sanction policy
  • Complete the electronic application submission process

  • You must submit at least one recommendation and documentation for entry exams (if applicable).

What is the amount of funding available? 

Gus Archie: USD 5,000 per year, up to 4 years
Henry DeWitt Smith: USD 5,000 single payment
Imomoh: USD 2,000 single payment 
Nico van Wingen: USD 5,000 per year, up to 4 years

How long does it take to complete the application?

The application includes a significant amount of information. Completing all application fields, including the personal statements, should take a minimum of 1 ½-2 hours. This does not include the time it takes for you to request a recommendation and to have the recommendation form uploaded by your reference(s). You can save your application as a draft multiple times and return to add more information. Please note that once you submit, you are not able to make additional edits.

May I use the funds for anything other than university tuition?

Yes, but the funding must be used for educational purposes such as tuition, books, living expenses, etc.

About Egbert Imomoh

Non-Executive Chairman and co-founder, AFREN PLC

Egbert Imomoh is the Non-Executive Chairman and co-founder of Afren plc. His petroleum industry career began in 1968, when he joined Shell as a petroleum engineer in Nigeria after completing training in The Netherlands. During his career, Imomoh has worked in Nigeria, the UK, and The Netherlands. He rose to the position of Deputy Managing Director of Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria, a position he held until his retirement in February 2002. He then worked with Shell International, London, as a Senior Corporate Adviser on Nigeria during 2002-04. 

Imomoh has been a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers since 1972 and was a founding member of the local SPE organization in Nigeria. He was Chairman of SPE Nigeria Council during 1988-89, became an SPE Distinguished Member in 1989, and was named an Honorary Member in 2011. Imomoh served as the first Africa Region Director on the SPE Board of Directors during 2000-03, chairing the Board Committee on Membership, Education, and Professional Activities in 2002-03. He was chairman of the SPE Nigeria Council Board of Trustees from 2007 to 2011. Imomoh holds a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Birmingham, England. He was given a national award, Commander of the Niger, in 2011 and a honorary doctorate degree by the University of Port Harcourt in 2012.
