LUISS Summer School on International Trade: Law and Economics, Italy

Publish Date: Sep 30, 2016

Deadline: Jul 15, 2017

Overview

The academic content of the Summer School is focused on four main areas of international trade: the multilateral trade system, European commercial policy, foreign direct investment, and international trade and economic theory.

The program lasts 2 weeks and will be held in the first half of July 2017.

The courses will be held at the LUISS campus in Viale Romania 32, Rome, in the Parioli quarter. The School is open to undergraduate seniors and graduate students.

The local facilitator is Prof. Elena Sciso, Professor of Political Science and Director of the Summer School at LUISS University. She and her team will provide support to students in coordination with the trip leader in terms of academic understanding, cultural understanding and coordination of extracurricular activities, as well as post-experience follow up. The trip leader is Lucio Lanucara, Professional Faculty and Jean Monnet Module Professor with the FITE Department at the School of Management, Adjunct Faculty at Political Science and Senior Fellow at Geospatial and Population Studies. Prof. Lanucara is an Italian national who studied and worked in Rome for several years before moving to New Mexico in 2014. Prof. Lanucara has already been a faculty at the Summer School in the years before leaving Italy. He thus has a profound understanding of any issues UNM students might encounter there, as well as the functioning of the Summer School.

Up to 3 credits will be granted to students of the Anderson School of Management (MGMT 427/527), POLSCI Department (POLS 340), and Economics.

For questions, please contact Dr. Lucio Lanucara llanucara@unm.edu.

Academics

The Summer School is aimed at providing participants with a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the legal and economic implications of the most relevant and up-to-date issues of international trade.

These objectives will be achieved through lectures and professional training.

This course will be an optional course for students from Anderson and from the cross-listed Departments and will greatly contribute to the academic goals for students that are interested in an international specialization within their undergraduate major or graduate studies.

The students will be supported at every step of their studies. Before getting to Italy, the trip leader will organize sessions preparing for the logistic and cultural challenges, explaining the method and philosophy of the Summer School and helping those students who would need it in developing and reviewing useful preliminary notions in order to make the most of the course. During the program the students will receive daily support and feedback, as well as advice on their life in Rome. The trip leader will make sure of greeting them at arrival in Rome, verify that they are correctly settled at the accommodation of their choice (the School provides special conditions with a select hotel nearby the campus), help in understanding of the local habits, social requirements, and communication with Italian third parties. After the program there will be a follow-up on any academic and administrative issues which might arise and for support for any interest in further understanding the issues studies in Italy.
