Loughborough University Postgraduate Studentships
Before you apply, we recommend that you follow the four steps below. If you have any questions, the Postgraduate Taught Admissions Office and International Office are available to help.
Select a programme and check the entry requirements
Details of taught postgraduate programmes can be found in the Postgraduate Prospectus. Make a note of the programme name and award (e.g. MSc.) you wish to apply for and its entry requirements.
English Language requirements
(International students)
All international students are required to meet a minimum standard of English language ability, and some departments require a higher minimum level. This section lists the requirements by department and the qualifications we accept.
Establish the costs and funding options
Ensuring you have the funds to pay for your programme and living costs is important. Our Student Finance section will help you establish tuition fees, typical living expenditure and sources of financial support available from the University.
Once you've read the important information on the 'Before you apply' tab, you're ready to apply for a taught postgraduate programme at Loughborough University.
Application deadline
There is no official deadline for application to a taught postgraduate programme, but some programmes are popular and places may become full quite quickly. We recommend that you submit your application as soon as possible to ensure a decision can be made in time for the start of the programme.
There is no need for you to have completed your academic or English language qualifications before you apply - most students are made offers conditional on achieving particular grades in their degree and English language test.
Residents of Nigeria
Please be aware that certain applications from residents of Nigeria are referred to a third party.
Response times
We try to reach a decision as soon as possible, and you can help with this by including as much information as possible with your application. We normally aim to respond to an application within six weeks.
Now that you have made an application, you may want to know what will happen next.
Supporting documents
Once you have submitted your application, you will need to provide certified copies of supporting documents including:
- Transcript of your current degree studies
- Degree certificate (if completed)
- English language qualifications (if English is not your first language)
If any of these documents are not in English, you will need to get them officially translated, and the translation will need to be certified.
If you applied through the on-line application portal, all documents can be submitted to the University through this portal. You can upload your documents by returning to your application in the Application Portal, and clicking on "View/Upload Documents". You can upload your supporting documents at any time during the year.
Your offer
If your application is successful, you will receive an offer letter. This may detail the conditions that need to be met for acceptance to a course, and will be accompanied by other information.

Confirmation
If your offer is conditional, you will need to send us evidence that you have met the conditions (e.g. degree results, English Language evidence) before your place at the University can be confirmed.

Tuition fees
You do not need to pay your fees in advance and you will not be billed until shortly after you have started your postgraduate course.
International applicants
If you are a non UK/EU applicant you will need to consider a few more steps before you begin your studies. The International Office are available to assist you and provide more information. Academic Technology Approval Scheme
If you are intending to study a science/engineering programme and you are a non-EU/EEA national, you may require an ATAS certificate before you can apply for a visa.
Pre-sessional English Language programmes
If you do not meet the English language requirements, you may (at the discretion of your department) be admitted to a pre-sessional English language programme offered by the University at our Loughborough campus.
Students planning to study at the University’s London campus in September 2015 will be offered the opportunity to attend a pre-sessional English language course on the main Loughborough campus prior to the start of their programme. There will be plenty of opportunities during the pre-sessional course to travel to London and explore the exciting London campus, and students will transfer to London for their degree programme following satisfactory progression from the pre-sessional course.
