London Metropolitan University Vice Chancellor's Research Scholarship Scheme

We are pleased to announce that London Metropolitan University is offering three Postgraduate Research Vice Chancellor's Scholarships (MPhil/PhD) for 2016/17. The Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities is offering three fees-only scholarships for successful applicants for the equivalent of up to three years full-time study or six years part-time, subject to successful progression.

Eligibility criteria

Only home/EU applicants are eligible. Applicants should not currently be registered for a postgraduate research degree. The following three areas of research are offered for VC scholarships:

Scholarship 1 - Social Professions
Applications are invited in the areas of:

  • State responses to violence against women; domestic violence; sexual violence (including sexual harassment); harmful practices; sexual exploitation; child sexual abuse/exploitation
  • Community Development
  • Early Childhood
  • Public health
  • Housing and Regeneration
  • Initial Teacher Training
  • Refugee Assessment and Guidance Unit
  • Social Work
  • Youth and Community Work
  • Public Administration

Scholarship 2 – Media, Culture and Communications
Applications are invited in the areas of:

  • Applied Linguistics and TESOL
  • Creative and Professional Writing
  • English and American Studies
  • Interpreting and Translation
  • Journalism
  • Library and Information Management
  • Media, Digital Media and Film
  • Theatre and Performance Practice

Scholarship 3 – Social Sciences
Applications are invited in the areas of:

  • Criminology
  • Education Studies
  • Politics and International Relations
  • Sociology, Social Policy and Anthropology
  • Trade Union Studies

Restrictions and exemptions

All scholarships are only available for students who are not currently registered for a postgraduate research degree.  This means that eligible students currently completing taught postgraduate degrees - that is, MAs and MScs - are welcome to apply.  All scholarships are subject to regular review through the assessment of successful progression by the relevant Research Student Progress Group (RSPG).

How to apply

To apply for a VC Research Scholarship, please download and complete the VC Scholarships Application Form and the Fee assessment questionnaire.
Completed application forms and fee status questionnaires should both be emailed to:
vcscholarships@londonmet.ac.uk and should include "VC Scholarship Application" in the subject line/box of the email.

Please note: The application deadline date is 31 July 2016 for an October 2016 start.

Applications will be reviewed by subject specialists. Shortlisted applicants will be interviewed and interviews will likely take place in August and September 2016. Due to the high volume of applications, it will not be possible to provide individual feedback.
