International Foundation Year

The International Foundation Year is designed specifically to provide international students with a direct path to degree study at the university.

Subject routes

You can choose from three subject routes on the International Foundation Year:

  • Business, Management and Law
  • Social Sciences
  • Science, Engineering and Computing

Assessment

You are regularly assessed to ensure you are achieving the required standards for progression to your degree of choice. Assessments include:

  • Course work
  • Unseen written examinations
  • Extended essays and case studies
  • Individual and group presentations.

Term dates

Entry points: Term Dates
 September 2016 Term 1 – 13/09/2016 to 02/12/2016
Term 2 – 09/01/2017 to 17/03/2017
Term 3 – 03/04/2017 to 09/06/2017

English language preparation

If you need to improve your level of English language to the required standard to enter the International Foundation Year, additional English language training is available at the International Study Centre. Depending on your IELTS (please see Entry Requirements page), you can join our one term intensive English Language Preparation (ELP) course in June before starting the International Foundation Year in September. You can also take one term of ELP, starting in September, before starting the International Foundation Year in January.
