Introduction
This is an introductory course in African Christianities and indigenous religions. This course explores the exchange that has taken place between African culture and Christianity. The emphasis is on the globalization of African Pentecostalism as a stream of African Christianity. The migration of these religions and cultures in Europe will be studied through fieldwork and library research.

Program Outcome
By the end of this course, students will be able to: 

  • Have an understanding of African world views.
  • Compare African culture to other similar cultures in their contexts.
  • Identify and describe African churches and their particularities in different contexts.
  • Creatively engage with the African experience in discussing its social and religious developments.

Who can join?
Specialists and non-specialists in the area of religion and history. A bachelor’s degree or its equivalent will be helpful to the student.
Apart from students, Ph.D. staff and professionals are also welcome to apply.

English language requirements
It is not necessary to provide us with proof of your English. We do expect your English to be sufficient to understand classes and course literature. This means you should have at least a B2 level of English, as developed within the Common European Framework of References for Languages (CEFR). This is comparable to a TOEFL internet test with a score of 92 or an IELTS score of 6.5.
