LSA Collegiate Fellows Program

The College of Literature, Science, and the Arts (LSA) at the University of Michigan launched the LSA Collegiate Fellows program in 2016 as a major college initiative aimed at promoting an inclusive scholarly environment, recruiting and retaining exceptional early career scholars, and supporting outstanding scholars who are committed to building a diverse intellectual community.

The application deadline is Monday, October 1, 2018 at 5 PM (EDT). Incomplete submisisons will not be reviewed. After reviewing the materials here, if you have questions about this program, please contact lsacollegiate@umich.edu.

Program Description

LSA offers its students an outstanding undergraduate education in the liberal arts at a premier research institution and is dedicated to building a diverse and inclusive scholarly environment. The purpose of the LSA Collegiate Fellows program is to support exceptional scholars in all liberal arts fields who are committed to diversity in the academy and to prepare those scholars for possible tenure-track appointments in LSA at the University of Michigan.

The College seeks early career scholars whose research, and/or teaching, and/or service will contribute to diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education. The program is particularly interested in scholars with a demonstrated interest in bringing to their teaching/mentoring or research the critical perspectives that come from nontraditional educational backgrounds and pathways, and/or scholarly understanding of the experiences of groups who are historically underrepresented or marginalized in higher education.

Appointment

LSA Collegiate Fellows will receive a starting salary of $60,000 plus benefits. During the two-year term of appointment, Fellows will participate in the LSA Teaching Academy during their first year and teach one course per year in their host department. The remainder of the Fellows’ time will be devoted to pursuing research. Each Fellow will receive career advising from a departmental mentor during their fellowship.

All Fellows are expected to be in residence during the academic year and to participate in departmental seminars and related activities. LSA’s National Center for Institutional Diversity (NCID) will also organize and offer a number of activities designed to support Fellows’ scholarship and professional development, while building a community of scholars that has a commitment to issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
