About
A number of Faculty Postgraduate bursaries and scholarships are available for students wishing to study for a Masters degree, a Masters Degree followed by a PhD (“1+3”), or for a PhD degree within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
The shortlisting of awards is administered by individual departments. Applicants wishing to be considered for these awards should contact their prospective department for details of the application process. All applicants must already hold an offer of a place to study in any department in the Faculty of Arts & Social Sciences before applying for a scholarship, and be due to commence their studies during the 2017-18 academic year.
A variety of scholarships will be awarded up to the level of a fees bursary plus £15,000 maintenance.

Faculty MA scholarships 2017 terms and conditions
The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences is pleased to offer a number of Faculty Masters Scholarships (fees-only) to outstanding UK, EU and Overseas applicants wishing to undertake a Masters level programme within the Faculty. Outstanding applicants to both full-time and part-time Masters Programmes will be considered. Award will be paid in the form of a fee-waiver for one year for full-time programmes, and will be calculated on a pro-rata basis for part-time programmes.
Applicants wishing to be considered for these awards should complete the Faculty Scholarship application form and send it to their admitting department by the deadline stated on their respective departmental website. All applicants must already hold an offer of a place to study in any department in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and should be due to commence their studies during the 2017-18 academic year. Applicants may only apply for an award for a programme on which they are not already registered.
Terms of the awards
The terms of the award are as follows:
1. Award holders must be registered on a Masters programme in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
2. Where an applicant has been made a conditional offer of a place on a programme, any award will be conditional upon the programme conditions being met.
3. Scholarships will not be paid to holders of UK Research Council studentships or the equivalent thereof. The Faculty reserves the right to withhold the unpaid portion of any bursary in the event that the holder succeeds in securing alternative external funding at any time during the period covered by the award.
4. Awards are made subject to continuing satisfactory progress as a Masters student and may be withdrawn at any time if progress is deemed to be unsatisfactory.
5. This award must be taken up in the year in which it is awarded. Applicants who wish to defer the start of their studies to the following academic year will not be able to retain the award and will have to re-apply to the competition in the following year, should an award be available. Applicants should inform the Faculty Postgraduate Admissions Office of their decision at the earliest possible stage, in writing, by letter or e-mail.
6. Students holding this award and wishing to intercalate during their studies must apply in writing to the Associate Dean for Postgraduate Studies for permission to do so, in addition to seeking the permission of their Head of Department.
Faculty 1+3 scholarships 2017 terms and conditions
The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences is pleased to be able offer a number of Faculty Scholarships to outstanding UK and EU applicants wishing to undertake a Masters programme followed by a PhD programme within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. Awards will be made for four years, subject to satisfactory progress, and pro-rata for part-time programmes.
Applicants wishing to be considered for these awards should complete the Faculty Scholarship application form and send it to their admitting department by the deadline stated on their respective departmental website. All applicants must already hold an offer of a place to study in any department in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and should be due to commence their studies during the 2017-18 academic year. Applicants may only apply for an award for a programme on which they are not already registered.

Faculty Research Scholarships will be made for up to three years, subject to satisfactory progress, and pro-rata for part-time programmes.
Applicants wishing to be considered for these awards should complete the Faculty Scholarship application form and send it to their admitting department by the deadline stated on their respective departmental website. All applicants must already hold an offer of a place to study in any department in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and should be due to commence their studies between October 2017 and January 2018. Applicants may only apply for an award for a programme on which they are not already registered.
Terms of the awards

1. Award holders must be registered on a doctoral programme in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences.
2. Where an applicant has been made a conditional offer of a place on a programme, any award will be conditional upon the programme conditions being met.
3. Faculty Research Scholarships are made subject to continuing satisfactory progress and may be withdrawn at any time if progress is deemed to be unsatisfactory.
4. Scholarships will not be paid to holders of UK Research Council studentships, or the equivalent thereof. The Faculty reserves the right to withhold the unpaid portion of any bursary in the event that the holder succeeds in securing alternative external funding at any time during the period covered by the award.
