The Summer School will train a pool of experts (public and private staff) and citizens with different skills on:

  • the integration among the different components, both human and technological (satellite imaging, drones, vido surveillance, GPS), of the methodologies available in Forest Fire Risk (FFR) management;
  • the optimization of the contribution from public and private staff to volunteers and proactive citizen;
  • the building of local cluster of and citizens on FFR;
  • the identification of local solutions to be presented to the policy makers.

In the Summer School particular attention will be dedicated to the best practices in monitoring and early warning were the presence of a trained and large skilled human component ,diffused on the territory, can make a big difference in early warning and consequently in the ability to control a FF in the early stage without the need to involve expensive means of operations like the firefighting aircraft.
The Summer School will also pay attention to creating personelle (experts and citizens) on an integrated approach to FFR management with the participation at the community level of all the TG including citizens stakeholders will foster and strengthen social cohesion. The capacity building of a network of people that, coming from different cultural and educational background, will learn on how to contribute together to the protection of the territory from FFR, represents an innovative model of bottom-up approach to solving community problems.

Course aim
The present Summer School is aimed at transferring to the Summer School target groups knowledge of the (soft/hard) digital and visual technologies in the process of prevention, forecast, monitoring and early warning operations and of the best practices needed to foster the creation of critical mass (from expert to citizens, namely from private and public staff to volunteers and pro-active citiziens engaged or sensisitve in FFR management.
This process will endow the main local stakeholders at the community level (citizens, educators, volunteers, technical staff of the administrations, FFR operators) with the knowledge on best practice in FFR management and in capacity building at the community level and within the belonging institutions (public and private).
