American Druze Foundation Fellowship

The Georgetown University Center for Contemporary Arab Studies (CCAS) is pleased to partner with the American Druze Foundation (ADF) to offer the ADF Fellowship in Druze and Arab Studies at CCAS. The purpose of the ADF Fellowship is to promote research on the Druze and Arab minorities with a concentration in the political, economic, and social history of the Druze. The ADF Fellowship supports academic research in the disciplines of history, political science, sociology, economics, anthropology, and archaeology. It cannot be used to support research that relates essentially to matters theological or religious in scope and nature.

The ADF Fellowship is available to both untenured and tenured holders of PhDs.

The fellowship residence at Georgetown University is required for a period of nine months.

For those who hold a tenured or tenure-track job, the program will match 50% of the fellow’s base salary for the academic year at their university (up to a maximum of $55,000 for the year).

For those who do not hold a tenured or tenure-track job, the program will offer a fellowship of $55,000, with an additional $5,000 in research funds.

During the academic year, the Fellow must work on research and publications related to Druze and Arab studies. The Fellow is encouraged to deliver a public lecture on a relevant topic to be determined with the Director of the CCAS, and must design and teach for CCAS one graduate seminar on the Druze and the broader topics of socio-cultural pluralism, identity politics, and subnational communities in the Arab world.

Finally, the Fellow must be in residence at the CCAS for the duration of the academic year.

Eligibility: The fellowship will be awarded to a doctoral graduate (Ph.D.) from an accredited university or granting institution. The fellowship is based on an international competition. Applicants must have a record of relevant research in the disciplines of history, political science, sociology, economics, anthropology, and archaeology. Applicants will be assessed on the originality of their scholarship and the high quality of their academic record.
