The programme offers scholarships funded by the European Commission.
All admitted students are required to send the application documents on paper to UT by March 22, 2019 . If by January 11, 2019 you do not yet have your language test score, then you must submit a proof of registration to a language test electronically – upload it to the application system. The official test score must arrive to UT by February 28, 2019.
b Applicants graduating in 2019 and having their diplomas issued after the application deadline, should submit the most recent official transcript by the application deadline. Admitted candidates are required to post the certified copies of their graduation documents as soon as they have been issued.

Admission requirements
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) encompassing at least 60 ECTS in chemistry or chemical engineering and 20 ECTS in mathematics and/or physics (minimum eligibility requirement for application is 66% of the maximum grade available, as the average of all courses included in the transcript).
- English language requirements (see below).
Applicants considering the Uppsala study-track, please visit the link below for information if your previous studies meet the basic entry requirements set for Uppsala University. E.g. for applicants who have graduated a university in the Philippines the minimum requirement for entry to a Master’s programme at Uppsala University (or any other Swedish university) is normally a 4-year Bachelor’s degree and a 2-year Master’s degree. A Bachelor’s degree (4 years) followed by a Bachelor of Law (4 years) or a Doctor of Medicine (4 years) is considered to fulfill the requirements. Please note that if some Uppsala-specific requirements (excluding the requirements set for previous studies) or providing documents differ from the requirements described on the EACH website, follow the rules on the EACH website.
Application process in brief
1. Submit the online application form, available below, via the online application system DreamApply by January 11. You will receive an applicant code, which gives access to your account to track your application status. Before submitting the online application form, you need to upload the electronic copies of all the required documents to the online application system DreamApply.
2. Pay the application fee of EUR 50. All international applicants are required to pay the fee, unless they have completed the previous study level in Estonia. There are no additional exemptions from the application fee. An application will only be processed after the fee has been received by UT
3. Be prepared to take an online calculation test in the first half of February. The test can be taken by those, whose average grade of the previous study level and motivation letter exceed the threshold described below. The applicants qualifying for the test will receive a link to the test and necessary instructions by e-mail. Please check your e-mails regularly!
4. Should you be offered admission, you are required to send all the application documents along with your printed and signed application form by post within 3 weeks from the announcement of the offer (by March 22) to: Student Admissions, University of Tartu, Ülikooli 18-132, Tartu 50090, ESTONIA. Please pay attention to the fact that applications that have been mailed before the deadline, but do not arrive Tartu by March 22, are not accepted. This also includes a proof of English language proficiency (see below)!
Please be aware that only applicants who have submitted all the required documents on time will be eligible for evaluation and ranking!
Please also be aware that the language test takes time, so please register to a test well in advance of the deadline!
Payment options
To pay the application fee by credit card, please use the university’s credit card payment system. You can also pay the fee via bank transfer, details are given below. Alternatively, the following online money transfer options can be used: TransferWise, PayPal’s Xoom service. Please note, that the payment service availability varies across countries (e.g. PayPal’s Xoom service is only available for U.S. bank account holders). For details and technical guidance, please contact the service provider directly.
General information concerning the application fee
Paying the fee will enable to apply for up to 2 programmes at UT. The payment must be made by the application deadline at the latest (January 11, 2019). The payment should be made in euros. You are required to cover the transaction charge(s) and make sure the total fee amount is received by the university. Please request information on possible charges for international transfers from your bank/service provider before making the payment. If less than 50 euros is received by the university, your application cannot be processed before the total amount is transferred. Once you have made the payment, please upload the payment receipt/confirmation to the “documents” section in DreamApply. You will be informed when the fee has been received by UT.

- Proof on the English language proficiency. One of the following international tests is required:
- IELTS Academic: Overall mark of 6.5 and no section below 5.5. Copy of the test result is accepted, as it will be verified online by UT.
- TOEFL: Paper based: 22 for all subcategories; Internet based: 90. The TOEFL result must be sent directly to the University of Tartu by the Educational Testing Service. TOEFL institutional code for the University of Tartu is 0133.
- Cambridge Exam: Proficiency (CPE).
- Cambridge English First (FCE) and Advanced (CAE): 173.
- Pearson PTE Academic – Score of 62.

English language requirement is waived if an applicant can document any of the following:
- has completed secondary education in English in one of the following countries: in EU/EEA member states; USA; Canada; Australia or New Zealand. In the case of EU/EEA member states, the education certificate must include information on the language of instruction;
- has completed secondary education (also known as upper-secondary/high school education) in one of the EU/EEA member states and taken the final exam in English with a result that indicates correspondence to B2 level according to Common European Framework of Reference for Languages;
- has studied in English (with English as medium of instruction), in full-time student status for at least one academic year, in a higher education institution in one of the following countries: USA; Canada; Australia; New Zealand or any of the EU/EEA member states. The transcript of records must include information that the applicant was enrolled in the programme taught in English.
- Motivation letter (of maximum 5000 characters, with spaces) addressing the following: (1) Give a short overview of the physical and chemical basis of modern analytical chemistry. (2) What is the role of analytical chemistry in the world’s economy and society? (3) Please describe briefly your previous study and work experience, as well as your personality. (4) Give your first and second preference for study track (i.e. Tartu-Uppsala, Tartu-Lyon, Tartu-Åbo), together with short argumentation of your choice. (5) Describe how the EACH programme will help you in achieving your professional goals.

Please consult the EACEA’s Provisions for the processing of personal data (also found in the footer of each page of the EACH website). EACEA may use the data for the purposes of evaluating the programmes, efficiently manage the projects, and producing statistics.
For calculating travel contribution, the applicants are required to provide a proof of their place of residence. The place of residence is verified based on the provision of the documents listed in the PRADOwebsite of the Council of the European Union. Such an official document (e.g. a residence certificate issued in accordance with the applicant’s municipality normal registration rules) must be issued within 12 monthsprior to the deadline of online submission of applications to the EACH programme. Please upload the document to the DreamApply application system. A hard copy of the document should be sent to University of Tartu by March 22.
In order to be considered official, a diploma or academic transcript must bear a seal and a signature of an authorized official. Photocopies of diplomas and transcripts must be certified. Copies can be certified by the institution that issued the diploma or transcript. Documents with an Apostille are also considered official. Non-EU applicants: for submitting correct documents, please check the following country specific requirements
NB! Applicants graduating in 2019 and having their diplomas issued later than application deadlines, please send an application form and the most recent official Transcript of Records by the required deadline (electronically by January 11 and by regular post by March 22). Mark to your online application, when you will receive all the required education certificates.
Applicants graduating in 2019 will be first offered conditional admission. Conditional admission is valid until the end of July, thus the degree certificate (or other relevant graduation documents) must be sent to Tartu by July 31, 2019, at latest (but as soon as you receive it). If you expect to graduate later, you cannot be admitted to the programme this year but are welcome to apply for the next year.
Evaluation and ranking of the applications
The applicants are ranked based on the following two indicators:
1. Average grade of the previous study level (yields 40% of the final score).
2. Motivation letter (40%). Knowledge of the field, motivation and argumentation skills, relevant study and work experience and other relevant activities (publications, project management, etc.) are evaluated. Please note that information in your CV is not taken into account. Only the motivation letter is examined. So, for example, if you have extensive experience of working in the field or scientific publications then this should be explained in the motivation letter.
3. Online test on problem solving (20%). The problems include the following: calculations of moles and percentages based on molecular formula and weighing data, calculations of solution concentrations, calculations of results of simple analytical determinations (titration, gravimetry, etc.).
In order to be eligible for ranking and fulfill the minimum requirements (exceed the thresholds) for enrolment to the programme, an applicant must have:
– at least 66% for the average grade (maximum is 100);
– at least 51% for the motivation letter (maximum is 100) and
– at least 51% for the problem solving test.
For calculating the final score, points given for the average grade, motivation letter and problem solving test are multiplied with their share for admissions score (shares are indicated above in the brackets). The minimum final score for ranking is 66 points, thus candidates having lower final score than 66 points are not considered eligible, and cannot be selected for ranking.
Applicants scoring overall less than 75% are not considered for the partner and programme country scholarship nomination (but can be considered for the tuition waiver scholarship nomination).
The appeal has to be submitted by e-mail due Mar 8, 2019 using the Appeals form. The protest has to contain the applicant’s name and a clear explanation what the appeal is based on. Only appeals from eligible candidates (all required documents have been submitted on time and all formal requirements were met) will be considered. The appeals from eligible candidates will be forwarded to the EACH academic board. The board will communicate with the appellant, explain the grounds of its original decision and enable the appellant to present its arguments. Based on these arguments, the board will take a decision and communicate it to the appellant by Mar 15, 2019. This decision is final.
