University of Essex Psychology Doctoral Scholarships 2015

Publish Date: Mar 31, 2015

Deadline: Apr 03, 2015

Our University of Essex Psychology Doctoral Scholarships support talented PhD students to study at the University. These awards are available to students who can demonstrate an excellent academic background and the potential for future achievement, as well as financial need. Our Department of Psychology has a strong research reputation and was ranked 13th in the UK for research quality with 90% of our research rated as 'world-leading' or 'internationally excellent' (REF 2014). The department has excellent research facilities, including well-equipped, purpose built laboratories in the Centre for Brain Science, and is located in a friendly campus environment.

Scholarship value

We are offering three scholarships for entry in October 2015-16. The award consists of a full home/EU fee waiver or equivalent fee discount for overseas students (£4,050 in 2015-16) and a stipend of £12,000 per year, plus a personal budget to support your studies of £480 per year, and Proficio points which may be used to 'buy' advanced skills training. The scholarship will be awarded for each year of study during the standard minimum period of enrolment for your degree, subject to satisfactory progress.

This award is available to UK, EU and international full-time PhD students. We welcome applications from candidates who have, or expect to obtain, a first or upper second class degree (or equivalent) in Psychology or a cognate discipline. To be eligible, you must hold an offer from the University of Essex for a PhD (not MPhil or Masters by Dissertation).

Note, applicants may only receive one award administered by the University of Essex and, if an applicant is already in receipt of another University award (including the Alumni Loyalty Discount), the larger of the two awards will be allocated.

How to apply

Applicants are required to provide two academic references plus a research proposal as well as a completed application form. Please contact a potential research supervisor and agree a research proposal before submitting an application for this award. You can search our list of prospective supervisors.

Please return your completed application form to the Graduate Administrator, Mrs Lesley Monk, by email to by no later than Friday, 3rd April 2015.
