IED Barcelona calls upon creative minds to develop ideas and projects under the theme of “Let’s Design the Future: Design a solution to improve our life”. Candidates are asked to apply for the theme to their field of interest: Fashion, Design, Visual Communication or Management. IED Barcelona will be awarding its students with a total of 22 grants to cover 100% or 50% of their tuition fees for Masters and Postgraduate Courses (2017-2018). The grants are shared out among the courses as follows:

THEME
“Let’s Design the Future: Design a solution to improve our life” – A creative mind is a curious, adventurous, sensitive, independent and inventive mind. But above all, being creative means seeing things that others do not see. Design can and has changed the world for the better by creating new products, producing innovative solutions, describing things from a different perspective. So how can design help the world, people, governments and businesses?
Candidates will be required to put forward ideas linked to topics in the field of design, innovation and creativity. Based on their own individual experience and with their sights set on global needs, they will be asked to conceive innovative solutions to supply the market with new products: quality, creative, accessible and sustainable items.
Candidates should develop their idea in line with the course they wish to take (Masters or Postgraduate). Therefore, the choice of product/service to be designed will depend on the course they choose to study. With this in mind, a series of guidelines have been defined for each field:
Design
Master en Diseño Sostenible de Producto, Master en Diseño de Interiores para Hoteles y Espacios Gastronómicos, Master in Global Design, Master in Interior Design for Commercial Spaces, Postgrado en Diseño de Iluminación de Espacios, Postgrado en Interactive Space Design for Brands, Postgrado en Food Event Design.
Choose one of the following options:
- Design a space, an exhibition, a store, an office... This could be a sustainable building, a prefabricated house for emergency situations or a low-cost business venue made of recycled, sustainable or local materials.
- Design accessible objects or furniture using local community carpentry, making them durable and aesthetically pleasing. For example, this could consist in creating an object or developing a product that is low-cost and high-quality, which can be sold all over the world for houses or offices, producing all kinds of models and sizes; finding a solution for a new type of sustainable packaging; or inventing a machine that can store food for longer and produce less waste.
- Produce a lighting project that is innovative and sustainable bearing in mind the environmental impact of light.

Visual Communication
Master en Dirección Estratégica y Creativa de Comunicación de Marca, Master in Interactive Apps Design y Master en Diseño Gráfico de la Información y Media Branding. Choose one of the following options:
Design a leaflet, a poster, a video (30 seconds max), various illustration drawings, an interactive exhibition, motion graphic designs, a photo gallery, a videogame, a web site, a 3D animation, a graphic interface, a mobile phone app, a caricature, etc.
All of the design elements suggested should represent or be linked to the concept of “Let’s Design the Future: Design a solution to improve our life” – a design that can cater for everybody’s needs.
Management for Creative Industries
Master in Design Management, Master in Fashion Management, Master en Innovation Strategies and Entrepreneurship, Postgraduate in Trends Research, Postgraduate in Design for Innovation Strategy, Postgrado en Food Event Design.
Choose one of the following options:
- Express an idea for an innovative business based on the concept of design quality, accessibility, sustainability and social applicability.
- Create a design strategy and an innovative action plan to produce and launch new products on the market designed to suit everybody, help the environment, improve working conditions and give people the chance to live better thanks to design.

Fashion
Master en Diseño de Moda, Master en Marketing y Comunicación de la Moda, Postgrado en Diseño de Vestidos de Novia y Ceremonia, Postgrado en Diseño y Gestión de Moda Infantil, Postgrado en Diseño de Accesorios de Moda, Postgraduate in Fashion Product Management.
Choose one of the following options:
- Design an item of clothing, a dress, an accessory, a pair of shoes, a sustainable item of clothing or something linked to fashion based on the concept of “Designers Can Change the World”, using quality and sustainable materials and aiming for affordable prices.
- Describe or create a trend style or a network of public relations that can be created in line with the following principles: quality, sustainability, new technologies, accessibility, local workers. Alternatively, create a fashion event or marketing campaign linked to the concept of “Let’s Design the Future”, encouraging brands, stores, stylists, professionals and customers on the whole to buy and invest in that market.

Project Submission – How to do it?
Step 1. Sign up and fill in the online inscription form on the official website.
Step 2. Submit your project online.
Candidates will be required to submit a Power Point comprised of 10 slides exported to PDF weighing no more than 6MB. The purpose of these slides is to explain the project using images and/or links to videos. In addition to this presentation, candidates must also submit a composition covering no more than three pages to describe the project, as well as their CV and a covering letter stating why they wish to study their chosen course.
