Master of Arts in Asia-Pacific Studies (MAPS) is an interdisciplinary graduate program that is designed for internationally – focused students who wish to obtain an in-depth understanding of this fascinating and occasionally turbulent part of the world through multi-faceted and inter- disciplinary lenses.

Core Focus

Thammasat Institute for Area Studies (TIARA) in collaboration with College of Interdisciplinary Studies, Thammasat University, offers a course-based master’s degree program that structured around three core subjects:international economics, international relations and politics, and international laws and applying them to a myriad of situations in the Asia-Pacific Region.

Scholarships

MAPS Program is endorsed with the scholarship from various organizations. Our main sponsors for international students include Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA) and Thammasat University. A number of scholarships are offered on merit-based basis. Currently, there are two types of scholarship available for International students and one for Thai students.

  1. MAPS – Royal Thai Government Scholarship supported by Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA). Applicants from the following countries are entitled to apply.
    • Cambodia,Indonesia,Myanmar,LaoPDR,andVietnam
    Availability: 6-8awards(2017/18Intake)
    Status: Open for Application until end of February 2016. Interest applicants should
    apply directly to the Royal Thai Embassy in their respective countries.
  2. Thammasat University Scholarship supported by Thammasat University. Applicants from all over the world, with particular focus in ASEAN countries, are welcome to apply.
    Availability:10-12awards(2017/18Intake)
    • Applicants must apply directly to the Program. The program will nominate
    applicants to Thammasat University. However, applicants should know that the process will take some time and the announcement usually approach the beginning of the first semester due to the screening process

  3. The Government Savings Bank Scholarship supported by The Government Savings Bank of Thailand. This 100% Tuition Fee –waiver scholarship is for Thai student with suitable academic credentials.

    For all scholarships recipients, terms and Conditions may apply differently from one scholarship to another. For those who are eligible to apply for both TICA and TU scholarships (Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar, Lao PDR, Vietnam), you can request for more information via maps.tisic@gmail.com

Scholarship value/ inclusions/ duration

The scholarship worth approximately 570,000 THB is fully funded and provides the following benefits for the recipient only. The duration of the scholarships covers three academic semesters and one summer semester (approximately 16-18 months depending on academic year announced by Thammasat University). 
Please note that the amount of the scholarship and the terms & conditions set by the sponsors will be different from one another.

The program reserves its right to nominate the scholarship applicant to any sponsors that the program sees appropriate.
If scholarship recipient could not finish his/her thesis in the time-frame, he/she will have to be responsible for the extra expenses that may occur. Scholarship will not include expenses that may occur due to thesis and publication of thesis. The program will only help to facilitate relevant process in Thailand only.

Eligibility

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in any field with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and above from an accredited university

  • Minimum requirement of English Proficiency is 6.5 IELTS(IELTS 6.0 is acceptable see NOTE), 550 for paper-based TOEFL test, 79 for internet-based TOEFL test, and 213 for computer-based TOEFL test or 550 for TU-GET. The official score report of English Proficiency is valid only if the test was taken no more than 2 years prior to the last date of the application submission period. However, requirement for English Proficiency does not applied to native English speakers.

  • Admission and Scholarships are awarded based upon various criteria-overall academic performance, letters of recommendation, statement of purpose, academic essay, and the interview screening.

  • Please note that our scholarships are allocated on first-come-first-serve basis.It cannot be guaranteed that you will get the scholarship even you submitted your application and documents before our advertised deadline due to high competition. This, it is strongly advised to submit your complete application as soon as possible.
