The International Foundation Year is specifically designed for international students who would benefit from additional support before starting an undergraduate degree at a Dutch university.
The pathway programme includes modules in academic study skills, English language and relevant academic subjects to thoroughly prepare you for degree level study in Holland. At the International Study Centre, you'll gain an invaluable insight into the Dutch education system, levelling the playing field between you and your native Dutch peers and helping you make a smooth transition to a different education system.

Course Facts
The International Foundation Year focuses on key areas, including:
- improving your IELTS level from 5.0 to 6.0
- developing your vocabulary, grammar, speaking, writing and listening skills
- expanding your knowledge of economics, mathematics and management
- advancing your study skills
- teaching in small groups in an international, interactive classroom setting
There are 16 contact hours per week and you'll also be expected to do a minimum of 20 hours of self study per week to practice your theory and do your homework.
Assessment
The programme is formed of modules. You'll be monitored, through continuous course work and end-of-term or end-of-module assessments, to ensure you stay on track. Your continuous coursework includes a series of presentations and extended essays.
Progression
If you successfully complete the pathway programme, achieving the required academic grades, you can enrol on your chosen degree programme.
Depending on the subject you intend to study, you may be able to progress to the first year of a three-year degree or to the second year of a four-year degree*.
* The final decision on whether or not you will be allowed to progress to the second year lies with the partner university.
