16th Migration Summer School: Migration and Mobility in an Era of Contention

International migration, growing mobility, and displacement are, and will continue to be, among the most pressing issues in public debate, policy-making and politics. Migration is a key feature of today’s interdependent and globalised world. It is an increasingly relevant area of international cooperation attracting significant amounts of resources and actors worldwide. It is also a deeply contested issue in many countries. The growing relevance of immigration requires, more than ever, a nuanced understanding of its fundamental dynamics. The Migration Summer School addresses the changing characteristics, causes and effects, as well as the challenges, opportunities, costs and benefits of migration and mobility for sending and receiving countries across the globe.
Teaching staff includes members of the Migration Policy Centre as well as other distinguished academics and policy professionals dealing with migration and related public policy issues.

The Summer School offers a diverse programme including lectures, inter-active workshops and debates. The combined insights from political, economic, sociological, legal, anthropological, and practice-based approaches to the study of migration will enable participants to return home with a deeper understanding of one of the most complex and multifaceted phenomena affecting governments and society across the globe.

The Summer School provides a unique opportunity to network with other participants (a selected group of researchers and practitioners from throughout the world), to exchange with outstanding scholars in the field, and to take advantage of the unique research facilities of the European University Institute (including the EUI Library).
We look forward to welcoming, to the 16th Migration Summer School, an enriching mix of postgraduate students, civil servants, officials at international organizations, representatives from NGOs and other civil society organizations, journalists, policy analysts, and teachers from around the world.
