8th Annual Prague Conference on Asian Studies hosted by the Department of Asian Studies and the Centre for Indo-Pacific Studies Metropolitan University Prague, 11 November 2016.

Despite the relative stability of the last thirty years, the regions of South, Southeast and East Asia still face a plethora of social issues and security challenges. The objective of the conference is to bring together academics and practitioners to discuss contemporary issues that South, Southeast and East Asian states and societies face. This conference is inter-disciplinary and welcomes research findings in fields such as sociology, anthropology, economics, gender studies, cultural studies, political science, international relations and history.

THEMES OF THE CONFERENCE

  • Human security issues
  • Conflict and conflict management
  • Social and gender movements in contemporary Asia
  • Citizen engagement and political participation in contemporary Asia
  • Different forms of resistance in Asian societies
  • Communities at the margins
  • International migration, transnationalization of migration and diaspora politics
  • Transnational issues, environmental politics
  • Political ecology, water and energy politics issues
  • Reflections of social and political issues in contemporary literatures in Asia

CONFERENCE FEES

The conference is FREE OF CHARGE. 

Note: Participants will cover all their personal costs, including transportation, accommodation, visas, etc. Our staff can provide you with an invitation letter for visa if necessary.  Local hospitality (refreshments) will be provided at the venue for speakers and guests.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

Individual panel sessions are to consist of three to four presentations, 20 minutes each, followed by 30 minutes for questions and additional discussion. Panel and paper abstracts must be submitted as Word documents and contain the title of the submission, proposed panel, abstract (250–300 words) name and affiliation  of the author(s), a short bio (100 words) and contact information (e-mail). The Organizing Committee reserves the right to reallocate presenters.

The deadline for the call for panels and paper abstracts is: 1 August 2016
Notification of accepted panels and papers: 15 August 2016
The deadline for final registration for the conference: 1 October 2016
