Join a community of change-makers and share your knowledge and skills to develop solutions to climate change issues.

Our two-week Summer Schools have climate-related topics and take place in different European locations. Connecting PhD students from around the globe, the Summer Schools are hubs for new ideas with interdisciplinary approaches.

Combining knowledge from various disciplines, new skills are acquired and innovative ideas brought to life. A combination of discussions with international academic experts and practitioners, creative transferable skills sessions, inspiring workshops, site visits and assignments create a unique learning experience for our students.

Summer Schools

In addition to the delivery of knowledge and skills, the programme is about connecting people and ideas. In 2016 Climate-KIC will organize three PhD summers schools.

Amsterdam and Bologna

  • Topic: Smart Solutions for the Urban Metropole, PhD summer school on Urban Metabolism and Water Management
  • Date: 4-15 July 2016
  • Deadline for registration: 30 May

Gothenburg

  • Topic: PhD summer school on Sustainable Production Systems
  • Date: August 29 – September 9 – Gothenburg, Sweden
  • Deadline for registration: 15 July

Frankfurt

  • Topic: PhD summer school on Green Finance: Overcoming barriers to low-carbon investments
  • Date: 18-30 September
  • Deadline for registration:  15 July

Who Can Participate?

The participation in a PhD thematic summer school is part of the Climate-KIC PhD programme. All Climate-KIC PhD students should take part in a thematic summer school in their second or third year.

Furthermore we are happy to welcome students pursuing their PhD outside of Climate-KIC and who are interested in climate change topics. Post-graduates with outstanding skills and motivation to participate are also invited to apply. The summer school will be held in English, in order to participate, students should have sufficient language skills. Short interviews might be conducted with the applicants to test their English skills and their motivation.

Fees

The PhD Summer School is an integral part of Climate-KIC’s PhD programme, which means that fees are fully covered for Climate-KIC labelled students.

For all other participant the following fees apply:

  • €500 for PhDs from Climate-KIC partner universities and EU citizens
  • €2000 for non-EU passport holders

Please provide include a copy of your passport in your application. The fee of the programme includes:

  • Accommodation (in double rooms)
  • Breakfast and lunch, approximately five dinners per week
  • Local transportation

Participants need to cover the travel costs to and from the destination themselves. After the confirmation of acceptance, you will receive an invoice. Course fees need to be paid three weeks before the start of the programme.
