LONDON ADVANCED STUDIES PROGRAM
AN ACADEMIC SUMMER SCHOOL FOR 14-16 YEAR OLDS
New for 2016, the London Advanced Studies Program (LASP) is an academic enrichment summer course for ambitious students wanting to challenge themselves with advanced academic tuition in very small class sizes.
Available to international students with a ‘strong’ intermediate level of English as well native English speakers, the course requires students choose one ‘core’ and one ‘specialist’ subject per week, as well as a weekly master class in key skills such as negotiation and public speaking.
INCLUDED IN LONDON ADVANCED STUDIES PROGRAM:
- All meals and classes in the Strand campus of King’s College London
- Single en-suite accommodation based in Moonraker Point, Kings College London
- Central London location
- Airport transfers

- One excursion outside of London each week
- Visit to a West End musical
- The course is open to both native English speakers and international students
- Non-native English speakers must have a minimum ‘B2’ level of English (upper intermediate).
- The age range for students on LASP is 14-16.
Taught by expert tutors with a maximum class size of six, students must choose one core subject and one specialist to study each week. Students can choose to either study the same area each week, or decide to change for each week of their stay.

Marvels of Mathematics
From calculus to trigonometry, mathematics is the core of all scientific understanding. Statistics, shapes and scales are all studied in this advanced look at the first subject ever studied by mankind.
IELTS is recognised globally, giving students a truly international qualification. With specialist tuition, including exam techniques and tips to help improve overall test performance, students will finish the course with the necessary skills to maximise their IELTS performance.
Biology of Life
More than 10,000 different species of animals are discovered every year. Understand what allows organisms to live on planet Earth, and how the future can put them in danger.
Reacting to Chemistry
Comprehending the foundations of chemistry are fundamental to gaining an understanding of how life is constructed. Chemical bonds, atomic structures and equilibria all have a part to play.
Physics of the Universe
The study of space has enchanted man since the dawn of time. Our Sun is 1,300,000 times bigger than Earth, yet the Sun is 300 times smaller than the largest known star. Ever felt so small?

Introduction to Engineering
Engineering is a wonderfully broad topic, made up of areas such as mechanics, architecture and construction. These sessions will give an introductory look at how engineering plays a role in all aspects of everyday life.
Socrates once said “I cannot teach anybody anything, I can only make them think”. Reflection can be one of the most difficult skills for any person to master. Journey into the world of musing, brooding and philosophy in these profound sessions that allow students to contemplate their own existence.
Fancy yourself as the next Bill Gates? In order to mould the minds of future CEOs, these sessions will take a look at areas such as marketing strategy, types of organisations, finance, ethical issues and supply chain analysis.
Psychology of the Mind
Comprehending the foundations of the human brain is a captivating way to understand how people think. Learn about the main themes and schools of thought that form the basis of psychology and behavioural science.
One afternoon per week will see students take part in interactive master classes one of the following themes over two hours:
This session aims to promote confidence and teach students how to use their speech and voice effectively to grab and maintain audience attention
The ability to use one’s time effectively and productively is vital. This workshop helps to increase efficiency, goal setting and improve effective scheduling.
A key ability, students will learn to articulate their point of view and the value of researched facts combined with strong opinion in this workshop.
The ability to negotiate is a crucial life skill. Planning, successful risk taking & leveraging are some of the negotiation skills practised in this workshop.
