Summer School - The Transformational Leader & the Sustainable Development Goals, 2022, University of Nottingham, UK

Publish Date: Mar 27, 2022

Deadline: Jun 01, 2022

Event Dates: from Jul 01, 2022 12:00 to Jul 08, 2022 12:00

This innovative course programme explores leadership and contemporary challenges through the lens of the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Participants investigate what is needed to become a transformational leader or ‘changemaker’ through a programme of debates and discussion, lectures, seminars, group activities and individual reflective exercises with each day themed around one of the UN 5Ps which are a way of organising the SDGs: people, planet, partnership, peace and prosperity.
Throughout the course, participants collaborate in small groups to produce an output which proposes a sustainability solution and displays their new-found expertise in leadership and sustainability; these presented to peers and tutors on the final day of the course. By the end of the course, participants should have gained insight into how they themselves can be a transformational leader and sustainability advocate. They will be aware of some ways in which different academic disciplines are tackling global and local sustainability challenges, and should understand some of the potential for multi-disciplinary collaboration to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure prosperity for all.
Optional pre-work – Readings and short videos providing overview of SDGs, climate & ecological emergency.
Each day has a 2-hour synchronous class and 1-2 hours of asynchronous work including independent work to consolidate knowledge from that day’s synchronous session and prepare for the next synchronous session. Asynchronous independent work is completed through activities on the NOW learning room and through a ‘Leadership portfolio’ word document.
