Application for the IMPRS-CMB PhD Program
We encourage the application of highly talented and motivated PhD candidates of all nationalities with a background in
MOLECULAR and CELL BIOLOGY, BIOCHEMISTRY, BIOPHYSICS, APPLIED and THEORETICAL PHYSICS, MEDICINAL CHEMISTRY, CHEMICAL BIOLOGY, STRUCTURAL BIOLOGY, SYSTEMS BIOLOGY and related fields.
ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS
Applicants should hold (or expect to hold prior to the start of their PhD) a University Master Degree in one of the following disciplines (or a related field):
- Biology
- Biochemistry
- Life Science
- Physics
- Chemistry
- Computer Science
- Medicine
Admission to the graduate program, if all requirements are fulfilled, is based only on scientific qualification and performance at the interview.
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS
The language of the IMPRS-CMB PhD program is English, therefore a good command of spoken and written English is a requirement.Formal proof of English proficiency (such as TOEFL, IELTS) is not mandatory but recommended. Should the IMPRS coordinators consider it necessary, applicants may be contacted by phone or skype for language assessment. Knowledge of German is not required, but foreign students will be offered the opportunity to attend German language classes.
SELECTION PROCESS
Time line of the next IMPRS-CMB selection:
- online registration: activated from 12th September 2019
- deadline for application: 31st October 2019 (24:00 Central European Time)
- deadline for submission of reference letters: 8th November 2019 (24:00 CET)
- Interview in Dortmund: 3rd - 5th February 2020
Once the application phase is concluded, the coordination office and faculty members will review all complete applications.
Candidates will be short-listed based on their academic qualifications, motivation letter, scientific background and recommendation letters.
The interview will take place at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Physiology in Dortmund.
IMPRS-CMB provides support regarding VISA application and reimburses ALL costs for travel and accommodation during the interviews.
Invited candidates will be interviewed by a panel of faculty members, after which, they will meet the group leaders in one to one interviews. Moreover, there will be also the chance to meet our current students to learn more about our program and the ongoing research in the participating groups.
Offers will be sent to successful candidates a week after the interviews.
