Scholarship Eligibility

The applicants are qualified for scholarship selection only after they get pre-admission in applying relevant majors. (For details, please see the guide of Application for Admission for Undergraduate/ Master/PhD Program)

Applicants should be non-Chinese citizens with a valid ordinary-type passport, and in good health.

Education background and age requirements: Applicants studying for a bachelor’s degree should be no more than 25 years old and have obtained high school diploma; Applicants studying for a Master’s degree should be no more than 35 years old and have obtained bachelor’s degree; Applicants studying for a PhD’s degree should be no more than 40 years old and have obtained Master’s degree.

Language proficiency Applicants who apply for the Chinese Government Scholarship—Chinese University Program (Type B), or Shanghai Government Scholarship, Shanghai University New International Student Scholarship, the language proficiency requirements are as 3 / 11 follows:

1) If you are applying for Chinese-taught programs, HSK certificates requirements are higher than admission criteria: 

New HSK 5above 180 for Art;

New HSK 5 above 180 for Science or Engineering;

New HSK 5 above 180 for Economics or Management;

New HSK 5 above 240 for Humanities.

2) If you are applying for English-taught programs, English language requirements are higher than admission criteria. Either of the following requirements is enough: --English is native or official language; --IELTS (A) 6.5 or above; TOEFL IBT 90 or above; other internationally recognized English proficiency tests with scores of the same level and provide proof of certificates. 2.4 No other types of scholarship were granted at the time of application

Application Procedures

Step 1: Log in University website and complete application online. The qualified applicants will receive Pre-admission notice. More details please see the Notice on Online Application for Pre-admission. The National Oversea Student Fund Committee will check whether the scholarship applicants meet requirements. Applicants or application materials that do not meet the requirements shall not be accepted.

Step 2: The applicants submit application to the dispatching authorities of the home country and obtains the recommendation qualification.

Step 3: Applicants who have obtained the qualification of recommendation please log in to http://www.csc.edu.cn/laihua and select Oversea Study Categories Type A, fill in the SHU Agency Number: 10280, complete application online.

Step 4: The relevant agencies will check the applications and the application materials approved by the National Overseas Study Fund Committee will be forwarded to Shanghai University for admission. The National Overseas Study Fund Committee has the right to make appropriate adjustments to the schools, majors, types of subsidies and duration of scholarships chosen by applicants according to the requirements of different countries, accepting capacity of colleges and Universities, academic system requirements and qualifications of applicants, etc. The final results of admission will be determined by the university. Those with pre-admission notice of Shanghai University will be sent directly to Shanghai University for admission confirmation; Applicants admitted by Shanghai 7 / 11 University will be awarded the Chinese Government Scholarship upon the approval of the National Overseas Study Fund Committee. Each scholarship applicant can only receive one grant from the Chinese government scholarship program.

Application Results

1. The applicants may inquire about the admission results from the overseas student dispatching departments of their own countries. After review and approval of the National Overseas Study Fund Committee, the final admission results will be sent back to the program accepting agencies and then pass on to applicants. The applicants may inquire the results from the relevant scholarship acceptance agency.

2. The National Overseas Study Fund Committee will send «the list of admissions», «the admission notice» and «the visa application forms for overseas students» (JW201 Form) to the Chinese embassy (or Consulate-General) of the relevant countries by July 31. And then pass on to the International Student Dispatch Departments or the applicants.
