Eni Scholarship – DPhil International Development
St Antony’s College, University of Oxford, in partnership with the international integrated energy company Eni, is offering a scholarship giving a DPhil student from Angola, Ghana, Mozambique, Nigeria, or the Republic of the Congo (Congo-Brazzaville) the opportunity to study for a fully funded degree in International Development.
Africa, for Eni, is the past, the present and the future. Africa is the continent which Eni has experienced, as pioneer, and the one, which today continues to shape Eni’s experiences as partner of countries where Eni has established lasting relationships, understanding and respecting African societies and cultures and their diversity. A presence in a continent, which supplies more than half of Eni’s crude oil and natural gas production, a share which is increasing thanks to the successes of recent prospecting campaigns. In these complex times, the energy industry is faced with a twin challenge: ensuring that the world’s growing population, due to increase from 7 to more than 11 billion people by 2100, has access to low cost energy and, at the same time, making sure that this is achieved in an environmentally sustainable way.
In line with its mission, inspired by the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Eni contributes to the SDGs targets through strategic cooperations focused on areas of common interest such as youth employment, agriculture value chains and renewable energy and energy efficiency, particularly in Africa.
Eni has a very long tradition of supporting scholarships. The “Scuola Enrico Mattei” paved the way for post graduate education in Italy and proved to be a pioneer for managerial studies in Europe. Since 1957 the “Scuola” has granted scholarships to around 2600 young graduates from 111 different countries to attend an oil and energy industry “Master MEDEA” programme, spreading the Mattei legacy throughout the world. Eni’s training and knowledge management is promoted and implemented through Eni Corporate University. In order to reinforce the company’s expertise in its business areas, Eni avails itself of a long established relational network with the most prestigious national and international universities. Amongst these esteemed institutions Eni can count on the collaboration of Oxford University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, besides the leading Italian Universities.
About the scholarship
This scholarship will allow St Antony’s to admit an African student irrespective of means and will add immeasurably to the diverse and intellectual character of the College. This is part of a joint initiative between Eni & St Antony’s College to invest in and strengthen African leadership.
Am I eligible?
The scholarships are open to applicants who are ordinarily resident in Angola, Ghana, Mozambique, Nigeria, and the Republic of the Congo (Congo-Brazzaville). Preference will be given to applicants whose first degree is from an African university.
The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of both academic merit and potential and financial need.

What does it cover?
100% of fees, and an annual grant for living costs.
The scholarship also covers one economy return airfare from your home country to the UK at the start and end of your course.
