Oxford-Wolfson-Marriott Graduate Scholarships
When awarding these Scholarships, preference will be given to applicants who have listed Wolfson as their first-choice College when two (or more) candidates are of equal academic merit.
Eligible degree subjects
Wolfson will be offering Marriott Scholarships in the following subjects for 2018-19 entry.
Biochemistry
DPhil in Biochemistry, offered in partnership with the Department of Biochemistry.
Hebrew and Jewish Studies
Scholarship for a Humanities DPhil student specialising in Hebrew and Jewish Studies, with a preference for a project considering Jews and science and/or modern Jewish history. The scholarship is offered in partnership with the Oxford Centre for Hebrew and Jewish Studies.
Interdisciplinary Bioscience Doctoral Training Partnership
Four-year scholarship for the Oxford Interdisciplinary Bioscience Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP) programme, offered in partnership with the DTP and Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council.
International Development
DPhil in International Development, offered in partnership with the Oxford Department of International Development.
Islamic Art and Architecture
Four-year scholarship for a student undertaking a combined four-year programme consisting of a Master’s course continuing on to a DPhil in Islamic Art and Architecture. Offered in partnership with the Khali Research Centre.
Linguistics
DPhil in Linguistics, offered in partnership with the Faculty of Linguistics, Philology and Phonetics.
Mathematics
DPhil in Mathematics, offered in partnership with the Mathematical Institute.
Psychiatry
DPhil in Psychiatry, with a preference for a project with an experimental or therapeutic focus within adult mental health. Offered in partnership with the Department of Psychiatry.
Value of award
Course fees (at the Home/EU rate), college fees and a grant for living costs for full-time students of at least £14,553 (students on part-time courses will receive a study support grant instead). Awards are made for the full duration of fee liability for the agreed course (previous Oxford students are advised to check the University's Fees and Funding pages for exceptions due to prior study).
Residence criteria
Scholarships are open to applicants who are ordinarily resident in the UK or EU.
How to apply
There is no separate application process. Applicants, whether internal or external, should apply to the University of Oxford under the standard procedures for graduate degrees for 2017-18. Applications should be made by the January deadline for your chosen course. If there are two or more candidates of equal academic merit, priority will be given to the candidate who has listed Wolfson as his or her first choice college on the University application form. The successful scholar will become a member of Wolfson College.
History of award
The Oxford Wolfson Marriott Scholarships have been made possible by a donation to Wolfson College from the late Dr Francis Marriott, who was a University Lecturer and Fellow of Wolfson from 1970 to his death in 2012. Dr Marriott conducted research in the field of biomathematics, and taught statistics. The scholarships are part-funded by the Oxford Graduate Scholarship Matched Fund.
