Publish Date: Dec 18, 2018

Deadline: Mar 01, 2019

PHD RESIDENT STUDENT PROGRAM

PhD fellows will be mentored by the academic advisors in the PhD program at the University where they are enrolled. They are to be physically present at the bank on a regular basis during the week, participate in the banks professional and social environment, be integrated in the activities of the Research Unit, and work towards the completion of their Ph.D. thesis.

The fellowship includes:

  • An office space for you to focus and work in
  • Research cost for your projects as well as travel costs
  • stipend equivalent to the stipend offered to students enrolled in a doctoral program in Economics at a Danish University
  • University fees
  • Danish health insurance
  • Any necessary working equipment

Danmarks Nationalbank invites applications for fellowships to support students enrolled or wishing to enrol in a PhD program in Economics or Finance. We are especially interested in students planning to work in macro-finance, macro-labor, economic modelling, and exploit the extensive household and firm micro-data, credit registry and big-datasets available in Denmark.

We offer the opportunity to work within theoretical and empirical macroeconomics, micro data analysis, and financial economics and econometrics.

Since the fellowship requires regular presence in the bank, this program is predominantly addressed to students enrolled at a university in the Copenhagen area. Students enrolled at more distant universities should specify in their application how they plan to engage in PhD course work and faculty mentoring while also being present at the bank on a regular basis.

The University of Copenhagen and Copenhagen Business School welcome applications for their PhD program from Nationalbank fellowship applicants. Please indicate in your application to these university programs that you have also submitted an application for funding to Nationalbanken.

You will be a part of an international research environment as well as a unique workplace and Danmarks Nationalbank professional and social community. Fellows are strongly encouraged to use the extensive data available at Danmarks Nationalbank for their research, collaborate on research projects Nationalbanken' s economists, present their work to the banks economists.

Application

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis as they are received at Danmarks Nationalbank. Review of applications will close on March 1st 2019.

The fellowship offers initial support for up to three years, and is renewed annually subject to approval of a progress report and maintenance of excellent academic performance. Fellows enrolled in the program in the past have had the opportunity to keep working towards their PhD thesis during a fourth year, being employed as student assistants in Nationalbank.  Students who are less than 18 months away from completion of their PhD should apply for the PhD Visiting Student Program.
