The MathWorks Studentship in Engineering

Funding is available to support a PhD studentship in Control Systems in the Department of Engineering, University of Cambridge, generously provided by MathWorks (the developers of MATLAB® and Simulink® engineering software).

The studentship is tenable for 3 years from 1 October 2019 and includes:

-The cost of fees at home student rate and a maintenance grant at the EPSRC recommended standard rate

-Paid internships for up to 10 weeks each year at MathWorks Cambridge offices

The research will be supervised by one of the Faculty members in the control group (Dr S. Bakshi, Dr F. Forni, , Dr I. Lestas, Dr T. O'Leary, Prof R. Sepulchre, Prof M.C. Smith, Dr G. Vinnicombe).

Some current areas of interest include:

Fundamentals of feedback systems and control Nonlinear control Systems biology Control and learning Computational and systems neuroscience Communication networks Power distribution networks/Smart grids Electrical and mechanical networks Distributed control and optimization Optimisation on manifolds Passivity based control

Candidates should have a degree in Engineering, Mathematics or Science, with an excellent academic record and strong mathematical aptitude. Any applicant for PhD study in the Cambridge control group will be considered automatically for this studentship.
