Kosovar Centre for Security Studies and Think Tank Young Professional Development Program
Kosovar Centre for Security Studies welcomes applications from the young professionals in the framework of the Think Tank Young Professional Development Program. It intends to attract recent graduates of MA and PhD programs in the social sciences and humanities giving them an opportunity to gain first-hand policy research and advocacy experience.
The Program enables recruitment of the young researcher who recently graduated from any university in the OECD countries. Depending on a research topic, this program will last up to 6 months and may start from November 2016.
The interested applicants must fulfill ALL of the following requirements:
• Have graduated in the past two years with a PhD, LLM or MA degree in the social sciences and humanities (preferably in Political Science, International Relations/Diplomacy, Defence and Security Sector) from universities in the OECD countries.
• Be a citizen or permanent resident of Kosovo.
• Applicants should be between 23 and 35 years of age at the time of application.
• Applicants must be fluent in written and spoken English and Albanian.
• Applicants must be ready to return to their home country and reside there during the internship period.

Details about The Think Tank Young Professional Development Program
The Think Tank Young Professional Development Program intends to attract recent graduates of MA and PhD programs in the social sciences and humanities to selected think tanks in the Western Balkans and post-Soviet space, giving them an opportunity to gain first-hand policy research and advocacy experience at a renowned think tank in the region. The program is designed to benefit both young returning professionals and their host organizations. It enables participating think tanks to recruit young researchers originally from the region who recently graduated from universities in the OECD countries. Depending on a research topic, individual programs at hosting organizations will last up to 6 months and may start from November 2016.
Researvh Topics of The Think Tank Young Professional Development Program
1. Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) This research will focus on the potential threat of violent extremism to the security situation in Kosovo. The researcher will assist in the project oriented on de-radicalization in Kosovo as well as accomplishing the research as to Kosovo’s foreign fighters involved in ISIS and other extremist groups. The researcher is expected to supplement the efforts of the KCSS in identifying the causes and consequences of theKosovar citizens’ participation in Iraq and Syria. The researcher is particularly expected to support the KCSS programme on CVE.
2. Cooperation between Kosovo and Serbia Ultimate goal of the Western Balkan countries, with a particular emphasis of Kosovo and Serbia is the integration into the European Union (EU). However, their path towards the EU integration is conditioned and measured by the progress that both countries have to fulfil with the aim to find solutions of the issues which are not yet solved between them. The aim of this research current situation with regard to the regional cooperation between Kosovo and Serbia, more specifically, in which fields they cooperate and what are the most challenged issues in this regard.
3. Good Governance in the Security Sector in Kosovo Objective of this research is to enhance integrity and accountability in the security institutions in Kosovo.
The research is intended to rely on the analysis of legal framework that adjusts integrity policies within the security sector in Kosovo, including laws, strategies, action plans as well as quarterly and annual reports related to the subject. The second level of analysis aims to conducting interviews with policymakers and decision-makers involved in Kosovo’s security sector. Apart from this, this research will follow the successful practices of European countries towards fighting corruption and promoting integrity in the security institutions.
