The school focuses on the performance and governance of services of general interests and in particular on six core sectors: Electricity, Gas, Telecommunications, Railways, Local Public Transport, Water and Waste Water.

The school is aimed at analysing the structure, regulation and performance of public services in Europe, particularly network industries. Click here to download the Programme.

WHY TO APPLY

The school offers: An overview of network industries reform in the EU. A unique focus on public enterprises economics and management. An international faculty of senior experts. Opportunity for interacting with stakeholders from the European Commission and European agencies. Participation at the XV edition of Milan European Economy Workshop. Working groups under the guidance of a tutor and prize for the best working group presentation. PARTICIPANTS

The school is targeted to master-level, PhD students and post-doctoral researchers who are working in the fields of Economics, Management, Public Administration, Political Science and Social Studies. Students are expected to attend the school full time. The total number of participants will be limited to 30.

ADMISSION

Admission to the school is free of charge and costs are covered by the EUsers network with Jean Monnet Action funds. All the admitted students will enjoy the following benefits: A grant covering travelling expenses (maximum EUR 350) upon presentation of travel documents; accommodation for the whole duration of the summer school (5 nights); welcome dinner; buffet lunch every day; coffee and refreshments in the breaks; WiFi at the summer school venue; teaching materials.

ORGANISERS AND SELECTION COMMITEE

The Summer School is organised in the framework of the project “Services of general interest in the EU: A citizens’ perspective on public versus private provision” (EUsers network), which is financed by the action Jean Monnet Networks of the Erasmus + programme. Members of the EUsers network will be responsible for the selection of participants. The Selection Committee includes: Massimo Florio (EUsers coordinator, Università degli Studi di Milano); Philippe Bance (Université de Rouen); Jane Lethbridge (University of Greenwich); Gabriel Obermann (WU Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien); Ulf Papenfuss (University of Leipzig); Johan Willner (Ǻbo Akademi University School of Business and Economics).

FACULTY

An international high-profile faculty of experts will offer a combination of theoretical understanding, practical knowledge and policy discussion. Lecturers include: Sebastien Bumbolo (Adriatic LNG), Carlo Fiorio (Università degli Studi di Milano), Massimo Florio (Università degli Studi di Milano), Torben Holvad (European Railway Agency), Thomas Kostal (WU Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien), Jane Lethbridge (University of Greenwich), Arnold Picot (Ludwig-Maximilians-Universitaet, Munich), Steven Thomas (Greenwich University). 

LOCATION

The school will take place at Palazzo Greppi, Università degli Studi di Milano, located in the heart of Milan (Italy).
