Legislative experience in a dynamic government at a pivotal time
What better place to experience the cut and thrust of legislative operations than the Scottish parliament - at a pivotal time in its history as the debate over national identity and the merits of devolved government are decided upon in a referendum? This exciting program with the prestigious University of Edinburgh, is offered during both the semester and the summer. It brings you a unique opportunity to help make history by working with members of the Scottish Parliament, which re-opened in 1999 after its suspension in 1707.
This is an unparalleled practical and academic experience for students of government, law, politics, history, economics or sociology. You’ll delve into the culture, history and politics of Scotland and the UK through engaging academic courses and the opportunity to complete significant research under the direction of a member of the Scottish Parliament.
Courses in Scottish/British politics and Scottish society/culture taught by expert faculty in the University of Edinburgh's Academy of Governance, ranked 17th in the world in QS World Rankings 2015.
You’ll be matched with a Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) according to your mutual policy interests.
You are often given unparalleled access not only to your own MSPs but also to key figures in Scottish and British politics through party conferences, campaigning, national initiatives and PR events.
As the core courses are taught at an advanced level, previous university-level coursework in political science and/or related fields is required.
