Curie proposals in Archaeology
ICREA Research Professor Sandra Montón Subías, established at Departament d’Humanitats, Pompeu Fabra University (Barcelona, Spain), is interested in receiving Expressions of Interest of potential candidates for the Marie Sklodowska Curie Individual Fellowship (MSCA IF) 2019 call.
Prof. Montón Subías is one of the few established professors teaching and researching historical archaeology in continental Europe and in Spain. Her current fields of research are the archaeology of modern Iberian colonialism and the First Globalization. Moreover, being committed to a feminist archaeology, throughout her career she has investigated topics of gender and identity, with her current research focusing on the effects of Spanish colonialism on gender systems, women’s maintenance activities, and processes of identity on the island of Guam.
Prof. Sandra Montón-Subías is currently PI in the project Material Culture, Colonialism and Gender in the Pacific. An approach from Historical Archaeology and director of the project ABERIGUA (Archaeology of Iberian Cultural Contact and Colonialism in Guam and the Mariana Islands). She also coordinates the UPF’s research group CGyM (Colonialism, Gender and Materialities). Since 2015, she co-directs the archaeological excavations conducted at different locations in the island of Guam, Mariana Islands (Western Pacific).
Prof. Montón Subías is interested in sponsoring up to 3 postdoctoral students working in any subject related to the previous projects including the Archaeology of Colonialism, the Archaeology of Gender and the Archaeology of the Manila Galleon.

Fellows will have desk space at the UPF main campus (Ciutadella), and access to meeting and lecture rooms, and computers with all the necessary software for the required research. They will also have complete access to UPF’s excellent library and interlibrary loan system, to IT services, language training and cultural/sports services.
Eligibility criteria
The Marie Curie Individual Fellowships (MSCA IF) scheme is a prestigious European funding programme that supports mobility, career development, and training within and beyond Europe. The scheme offers highly competitive salary and research costs. MSCA IF involves a joint application between the researcher and the Pompeu Fabra University. The fellowship is for an Experienced Researcher (4 years full time research experience or PhD) moving to Barcelona from another country. A Career Restart option is available to those inactive for 12 months or more and a Reintegration option is available to those previously active in EU who seek to return. All expressions of interest must meet the eligibility criteria of the scheme – applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent research experience.
Applicants from any country may apply, but must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Spain for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the submission deadline (12/09/2019).
Selection process
Applicants should check that they fulfil all the eligibility criteria and then send an expression of interest consisting of a CV (same template as in the call), a summary presentation of the research proposal (c. 5 pages), a motivation letter (1 page) and the contact information of two referees.
Expressions of interest must be submitted no later than March 31 2019 to josep.niubo@upf.edu. The title of the e-mail must be "MSCA application – Prof. Montón Subías – your name and surname"
Proposals will be preselected on the basis of internal evaluation. Candidates will be informed of the results of the preselection before April 20 2019.
