PHD (VIA MPHIL) STUDENTSHIP IN THE CENTRE FOR EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING AND LEARNING

Applications are invited for a full time PhD studentship in the Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning in collaboration with the School of Psychology at the University of Central Lancashire. The studentship is tenable for up to 3 years full-time [subject to satisfactory progress] and will cover the cost of tuition fees at UK/EU rates plus an annual stipend of £14296 (2016/17 rates)  International applicants may apply but will be required to pay the difference between the UK and International tuition fee rates.  It is expected the successful applicant will commence 1 July 2017.

Project Title – Predictors of student satisfaction in Higher Education in the UK.

Project Description

The project aims to establish variables that are associated with student satisfaction for teaching, learning, assessment and feedback as measured by the National Student Survey. This will involve statistical modelling of NSS data against variables such as teaching qualifications of staff, research outputs, survey response rates, and cohort size. The objective is to enhance understating of what factors correspond to high levels of satisfaction among students in Higher Education in the UK.

As part of the studentship, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to teaching, learning and assessment in education and/or psychology. In the first year of the studentship a maximum of three hours of contact teaching per week will be expected, progressing to a maximum of six hours contact teaching per week in subsequent years.

Candidates should have (or expect to hold) a UK Bachelor degree at 2:1 or above in Education, Psychology or a related discipline (or equivalent qualification) with a 2:1 grade (or above) for the final year dissertation.

EU and International applicants require a minimum English Language level of UKVI IELTs 6.5 (no sub-score below 6.0) or equivalent acceptable qualification.
