The 2-day intensive training will take place on June 6-7, 2018.

Working language

The working language of the training will be Armenian; however, the PowerPoint slides and cases will be in English.

Level

Entry-level. It is desirable that participants be familiar with financial vocabulary and basic accounting and financial technics.

Training participation fee

The training is free of charge. While similar hands-on trainings are quite expensive, ICARE fully covers the associated expenses for the participants, thus staying true to its charitable, social, scientific, and educational commitments.

Training description

This training introduces accounting as the language of business.  It emphasizes on analyzing, summarizing, reporting, and interpreting financial information under IFRS.  The training will introduce some key concepts of financial reporting; structure of financial statements, presentation and accounting of key balance sheet and P&L items, users of financial statements, etc.

Financial Management part of the training introduces firm’s goal to maximize shareholder value. Topics include investment decisions, financing decisions, financial markets, time value of money and cost of capital.

Target audience

The purpose of this training is to help participant to read financial statement and understand financial information for deferent purposes, including decision-making.  The course is designed for the beginners, to give them general understanding on structure, presentation and interpretation of key financial information.

Expected outcomes

After completing this training, participants will be able to:

Financial accounting  

·      Understand the structure of financial statements

·      Understand key accounting treatment of main items of balance sheet and income statement

·      Understand the main classes of assets, liabilities and equity

·      Discuss business actives and their effects on financial statements

·      Key users of financial statements

Financial management

·      Understand the goal of the private company

·      Understand primary and supporting roles of finance function

·      Differentiate between money markets and capital markets

·      Understand the importance of time value of money

·      Learn how cost of capital is derived

Presentation methods

The training methodology combines presentations, discussions, team exercises or case studies.

Trainer

Marianna Amirbekyan, is a Chartered Certified Accountant (ACCA, UK) and holds master’s degree in accounting and audit. She is a lecturer in Agribusiness Teaching Center (ATC) delivering financial and managerial accounting topics. Marianna has profound knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), International Standards on Auditing (ISA), etc. She has more than 10 years’ experience in external and internal audits in the Central Bank of Armenia, Ardshinbank CJSC and Grant Thornton Armenia.  
Ara Chalabyan, is an adjunct faculty at Agribusiness Teaching Center and American University of Armenia, where he teaches courses on Finance and Auditing. He has received Teaching Excellence Awards from both Universities. Ara has over 20 years of experience in corporate finance and internal auditing that includes Central Banking, Financial Services, Mining and Trading. Currently he is the Head of Internal Audit Department at Central Bank of Armenia and President of Institute of Internal Auditors of Armenia (volunteer position). He is a member of Audit Committee at Ministry of Finance (as outside expert) and Financial Services Guidance Committee of IIA Global. Ara is a graduate of Fletcher School, Tufts University, American University of Armenia and Yerevan State University. He is a member of ACCA, IIA and ISACA and holds ACCA, CIA, CRMA and CRISC certifications from those professional associations.
