Systems Engineering: Managing Complex Multidisciplinary Projects
Complex Industrial and infrastructural systems are increasingly built and managed on basis of Systems Engineering. In this course you will be introduced to the fundamentals of Systems Engineering and its applications. Complex systems can be airports, space crafts, chemical factories, railway infrastructure, port facilities and other big and complex constructions. These projects typically have a strong interdisciplinary nature and may take multiple years to build. Systems Engineering facilitates multidisciplinary development projects, provides a systematic approach for realizing these systems and supplies the instruments to manage complexity.
In this course you will be trained in the skills of Systems Engineering. Systems Engineering combines Systems theory and Engineering skills into a new systematic method for managing complex projects and interdisciplinary assignments. It is an interdisciplinary approach combining various methods for identifying, specifying, architecting, designing, building and maintaining complex systems. Systems Engineering considers company goals as well as technical aspects and stakeholder interests with the aim to provide quality products and services in line with user needs. Some Systems Engineering fundamentals are: project management, managing complexity, system architecture; systems thinking; user specification; life cycle optimization; verification & validation. A variety of system design tools like, Functional modelling; Failure Mode and Effect Analysis, Risk management and Context Diagrams will be included. Process skills for Systems Engineering may be: modelling, functional design and physical design. Apart from the instrumental tools interdisciplinary and hands-on group skills for managing projects are part of the curriculum.
The course has the V-model as the basic structure and alternates giving insight into the methods applied in Systems Engineering with working on a project in small groups using a case that includes all these aspects. The case is a real life complex system and this system under construction typically is visited during the course.
This interactive course offers participants hands-on experience and challenges students to bring system architecting and systems thinking into practice using cases from the professional world. Systems Engineering is about how to effectively implement or upgrade a system. It’s about first-time right, dealing with complexity, overcome resistance, fulfilling functionality and creating customer value whilst eliminating waste. Whether you are a student or a professional, join this challenging course and discover how to effectively put Systems Engineering to practice in your professional life!
