Chatham House, in partnership with the Robert Bosch Stiftung, hosts fellows from the six countries of the Eastern Partnership and Russia.
The fellowship offers an opportunity for the next generation of scholars from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Russia and Ukraine to advance their knowledge of post-Soviet politics, develop research skills, contribute to Chatham House research, and build links with policy and academic communities in the UK, Germany and the EU more broadly. The fellowship is aimed at future leaders, researchers and opinion-makers in the early stages of their careers.
The fellows spend nine months working at Chatham House with the Russia and Eurasia Programme team. During this time they will conduct a research project of their own design relating to the politics, economies and/or societies of the post-Soviet region. In the course of the fellowship, the scholars will conduct research trips to the region and also spend time at the German Council on Foreign Relations in Berlin. The fellowships are part of Chatham House's Queen Elizabeth II Academy for Leadership in International Affairs
Fellows
The first Robert Bosch Fellow, Orysia Lutsevych, researched the role of civil society in democratization, focusing on the cases of Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine. Her briefing paper, How to Finish a Revolution: Civil Society and Democracy in Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine was published in January 2013.
Robert Bosch Fellow Anna Munster analysed transnational Islamic networks in Russia and Ukraine and her research paper was published in November 2014. Katia Glod researched political protest in Russia and Belarus, and George Mchedlishvili's project focused on the changing perceptions of the West in the South Caucasus. Ilya Zaslavskiy’s project examined Russia and Azerbaijan as investment destinations for international energy companies.
Current Academy Robert Bosch Fellows Zaur Shiriyev and Nikolay Kozhanov are respectively working on elite perceptions in Azerbaijan and Russian foreign policy in the Middle East.
Call for Applications 2016/17
The 2016/17 application window will be open from 1 August 2015 and will close at 17:00 BST on Wednesday, 30 September 2015.
Two fellowships are available. One will run from February to October 2016 and a second will run from September 2016 to June 2017.
