Exchange opportunities

BTH is very adoptive of the exchange culture since it hosts many students from across the globe yearly. Mainly, the exchange happens for a semester or two semesters; however, the students stay for two years in some cases.

Important to note:

If you wish to apply for an exchange program in BTH, the department you study at currently must have a Bilateral agreement with BTH; otherwise, the exchange will not be completed.

How to apply?

Step 1: Nomination

You need to contact the International Office of your University or faculty. Afterward, your University has to nominate you via email to in.exchange@bth.se officially. The email should include the information below:

  • Personal Information: Full name, date of birth, email address

  • Academic information: Field of study, Study level (Masters, Bachelors)

  • Exchange period request

Step 2: Application

When your University has sent the nomination, and it has been reviewed, the nominee will receive an online application form, which needs to be filled out by the student.

The following documents are needed for your online application:

  • Transcript of Records including all your previous university studies (must be translated to English if not already in English)

  • Learning Agreement (signed by the home university and the student)

  • Personal letter

  • Curriculum Vitae

  • Copy of passport

Note: Although certifications of English level knowledge are not required, the students are expected to have an excellent command of the English language for seminar engagements and other activities.

Courses for exchange students

It has already been mentioned that BTH offers courses in English, which makes the selection easier for the exchange students. However, students have to be careful and considerate with credential systems and prerequisites for each selected course. There are some variations between course periods throughout the year, yet please consider that 30 credits are required per semester for full-time studies.

More profound information about exchange student programs can be found via this link (https://www.bth.se/eng/education/exchange-studies/exchange-studies-at-bth/).

Tuition

Depending on the country you are from, your tuition fees vary.

Suppose an applicant is from the European Union (EU). In that case, European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland BTH do not charge any tuition fees for students with citizenship within the EU/EEA and Switzerland.

If, however, the applicant is not a citizen of the above-mentioned areas, they are required to pay both application and tuition fees.

It would be best to consider that your payment amount depends on the program and/or course you have selected. Once the application period opens, the tuition information is available.

Note that payments must be completed beforehand. If you have been admitted to a one-year program, the payment must be completed a semester in advance.

For a step-by-step guide to pay your tuition, please follow this link (https://www.bth.se/eng/education/applicationandadmission/tuition-fees-and-payment/).

Refund of the tuition fee

Refunds are available in particular circumstances only. The particular circumstances include:

  • The student failed to receive a Swedish residence permit.

  • The student has been conditionally accepted to the specific program or course since the applicant's Bachelor's degree certificate was not yet available at the time of their application. However, they fail to meet the requirements to hold a degree by the start of the semester; this is not permitted to begin the program.

  • BTH retracts its offer of a study place or is unable to offer the program concerned.

The application for a refund is made via the applicant's BTH tuition fee account.

Scholarships

You should never let finances be an obstacle to your education. This is why BTH has options to fund your education via scholarships. There are two main scholarships available with their sub-branches:

  1. BTH Scholarships

  2. Swedish Institute scholarships

BTH Scholarships

The University provides scholarships for two programs:

  • BTH scholarships for prospective students

  • BTH scholarships for current students

Remember, while scholarships cover your tuition fee (partially), they do not cover your living and day-to-day expenses.

BTH scholarships for prospective students

The title speaks for itself, and you can guess that the scholarships are given based on academic excellence. The scholarships aimed for prospective students cover their tuition in part, usually with a 50% reduction. Note that applicants for remote studies in BTR are not eligible for the given scholarship.

How to apply?

After you have applied for BTH campus-based programs or courses through  Universityadmissions.se, you can then apply for the scholarship following the same link.

BTH scholarships for current students

This scholarship is aimed at the current students of BTH who have expressed excellent academic performance previously. The candidate needs to have a record of at least one term of on-campus study in BTH. The student in hand does not receive the scholarship, but rather the applicant's fee is reduced according to the amount of your scholarship.

How to apply?

The applicant must log in to the Tuition fee and Scholarship (https://tas.student.bth.se/) portal to apply for a scholarship.

Swedish Institute scholarships

The Swedish Institute, a government institution that fosters interest and confidence in Sweden worldwide, administers a variety of scholarship programs.

Among the scholarship programs are the following:

  • Scholarships for Global Professionals from the Swedish Institute (SISGP)

  • Swedish Institute Scholarships for South Africa under the Visby Program (SISSA)

  • SI Scholarships for the Western Balkans and Turkey
