The University of Otago Doctoral Scholarship provides funding to support doctoral students studying at the University of Otago.
The Scholarship is available to both domestic and international students. Candidates for professional doctorates, as well as the PhD, are welcome to apply.
Purpose
Doctoral scholarships are awarded by the University Council, on the recommendation of the Senate, to candidates proceeding to a course of supervised doctoral study at this University. These scholarships are normally available onlyto studentsseeking to obtain their first doctoral qualification. Candidates may be awarded one University of Otago doctoral scholarship only. Masters’ scholarships are awarded by the University Council, on the recommendation of the Senate, to candidatesin the first year of their thesis research for a Master’s degree which constitutes entry to the PhD course at this University. These scholarships are available only to students seeking to obtain their first research-based Master’s qualification.
Applicants must usually be:
- seeking to obtain their first doctoral qualification
- Selection is based predominantly on academic merit and the applicant’s potential for research.
Scholarship Worth:
Tuition fee waiver and NZ$28,600 annual stipend
Eligibility Criteria:
For the University of Otago Doctoral Scholarship, applicants must meet the following conditions:
- Be a domestic or an international student seeking to obtain their first doctoral qualification.
- Demonstrate excellent academic and research abilities.
- Have obtained relevant bachelor and master’s degree from a reputable institution of higher learning.
- Be willing to abide by the rules and regulations governing the conduct of students at the University.
Application Procedure:
Interested applicants for the University of Otago Doctoral Scholarships should apply online through the eVision portal; and can make at any time of the year. Once you have applied for admission to your programme you will receive an alert in your student portal inviting you to apply for a scholarship.
