NATO in a Post-COVID World

The Estonian Atlantic Treaty Association (EATA) and NATO’s Public Diplomacy Division (PDD) would like to invite you to the Zoom webinar “NATO in a Post-COVID World" on Thursday the 11th of June 2020 at 13:00-14:00 EEST(12:00-13:00 CET).

Speakers
Ms. Burcu San, Director for Operations, Operations Division, NATO
Ambassador Kyllike Sillaste-Elling, Estonian Permanent Representative to NATO, Mr. Sven Sakkov, EATA Member and Director of International Center for Defence and Security

The discussion will be moderated by Mr. Martin Hurt, Research Fellow at the International Center for Defence and Security

At their London summit in December 2019, NATO’s leaders stated that “NATO is facing distinct threats and challenges emanating from all strategic directions. Russia’s aggressive actions constitute a threat to Euro-Atlantic security; terrorism in all its forms and manifestations remains a persistent threat to us all. State and non-state actors challenge the rules-based international order. Instability beyond our borders is also contributing to irregular migration. We face cyber and hybrid threats”. And now NATO also faces an unprecedented challenge to its member states: the COVID-19 pandemic. While its militaries are playing a key role in support of national civilian efforts, using NATO mechanisms, Allies have been helping each other to save lives and supporting its partners. What does this all mean for the current and future roles of NATO? What should the recently started reflection process on strengthening NATO’s political dimension lead to?
