Stepsay Family Post Doctoral Fellowship in Classics 

The Department of Classics and Humanities at San Diego State University invites applications for a one-year appointment (renewable for a second year contingent upon performance and funding availability) for the Stepsay Family Post Doctoral Fellow in Classics. The Stepsay Fellow is designed to allow fresh post docs adequate time for research, while teaching a minimum course load in classics and mentoring students in the major. The selected fellow will engage in a comprehensive research, teaching, and mentoring experience.  Applicants should be prepared to teach courses in Greek and/or Latin language and literature at all levels, and to offer courses in classical literature, world mythology and culture in translation. Preference will be given to candidates with training and experience teaching hybrid and/or online classes. The Fellow will teach one course each semester (Fall and Spring), achieve significant progress on a research project, give a public presentation at the end the year, and participate in the intellectual life of the department and campus.  The successful appointee must have received his/her Ph.D. between July 1, 2016 and June 1, 2020. The appointment offers a salary of $45,000 per year and is benefits eligible. This is a 12-month appointment beginning July 1, 2020.

Complete dossiers will include a letter of application, CV, a 1,000-word prospectus of planned research and three letters of recommendation. The dossier should be weighted towards demonstration of teaching excellence.

Only three letters of recommendation can be uploaded into the Interfolio system, and only by direct submission of recommenders.

The person holding this position is considered a “mandated reporter” under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU.
