PIMS Postdoctoral Fellows

Each fall, the Pacific Institute for the Mathematical Sciences (PIMS) invites nominations of outstanding young researchers in the mathematical sciences for postdoctoral fellows for the following year. Candidates must be nominated by one or more scientists or by a department (or departments) affiliated with PIMS. The fellowships are intended to supplement support provided by the sponsor, and are tenable at any of PIMS' Canadian member universities: Simon Fraser University, the University of Alberta, the University of British Columbia, the University of Calgary, the University of Lethbridge, the University of Manitoba, the University of Regina, the University of Saskatchewan, and the University of Victoria.

Typically the amount of the award is at least $25,000 and the sponsor(s) is (are) required to provide additional funds to finance a minimum total stipend of $50,000.

Award decisions are made by the PIMS PDF Review Panel based on the excellence of the candidate, potential for participation in PIMS programs and potential for involvement with PIMS partners. PIMS Postdoctoral Fellows will be expected to participate in all PIMS activities related to the Fellow's area of expertise and will be encouraged to spend time at more than one site. To ensure that PIMS Postdoctoral Fellows are able to participate fully in Institute activities, they may not teach more than two single-term courses per year.

Regular PIMS Postdoctoral Fellowships

The regular PIMS PDF nomination/application process takes place entirely online, utilizing the MathJobs service provided by the American Mathematical Society.

Having selected their nominees, sponsors direct them to apply online. Nominees are required to upload a curriculum vitae, a list of publications and a statement of research interests. Sponsors must also upload their own reference letters and statements of anticipated support to MathJobs. Finally nominees should arrange for two additional reference letters to be uploaded. Letter writers will receive instructions as to how to proceed from their nominees via email from MathJobs. Detailed instructions regarding all aspects of the MathJobs application procedure may be found in the online MathJobs user guides.

Please be aware that:

1. Application is by nomination only; unsolicited applications will not be considered.

2. Successful nominees who also receive another major fellowship continue to be PIMS PDFs but may not receive both stipends.

3. Postdoctoral fellows associated with Collaborative Research Groups will go through the same nomination and rigorous review processes.

4. All nominees must apply through MathJobs; this includes nominees from PIMS Collaborative Research Groups.

The deadline for applications for the 2017/2018 competition will be December 1st, 2017

CNRS / PIMS Postdoctoral Fellowships

Postdoctoral candidates from institutions in France are eligible for CNRS / PIMS fellowships. The application procedure is different than that for regular PIMS Postdoctoral Fellowship nominees. Rather than having their nominees apply online, sponsors must send the complete nomination package to:
