2018-2019 CSBS Undergraduate and Graduate Scholarships

he College of Social and Behavioral Science (CSBS) awards over $700,000 in scholarship support each academic year. This year, we are using a new online application process for scholarships available through the CSBS dean's office, as well as all departments and programs. There is one standard application form that will guide applicants to scholarships for which they are eligible. The online application will guide you through various questions to help identify scholarships suited to you. For example, while most CSBS scholarship are open to all students, some of them have specific selection criteria, such as status as a non-traditional student, someone who has been affected by drunk driving, etc.

The scholarship application process for Dean's Office scholarships must be completed online (please do not print and hand write an application as this will not be accepted). To be eligible for CSBS Scholarships offered by the Dean's office or by individual departments and programs, you must be a declared major in one of the degree-granting departments of the College of Social and Behavioral Science:

Anthropology - Economics - Environmental and Sustainability Studies - Family and Consumer Studies
Geography - Health Society and Policy - International Affairs and Global Enterprise - Political Science
Public Administration - Public Policy - Psychology - Sociology

Please note that in addition to the application, two letters of recommendation are required. At least one letter must be from an academic source. Both letters must be on official letterhead and/or signed or they will not be considered. Please remember to select people who know you well enough to offer thoughtful and meaningful comments about you and your abilities. When you are completing the online application you will come to a field that asks for the email addresses of those you have asked to write recommendations. Once you have completed your application, they will be contacted via email and asked to upload their letters of recommendation into the online system. Be sure to alert those who are writing recommendations for you that they will receive an email and must upload their letters of recommendation into the system.

Note: Students may be awarded other scholarships through the University Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid. However, please be aware that the Scholarship Office reviews all scholarship awards and compares them against any federal student loans students may have taken. In cases where students have scholarship awards and federal student loans, the Scholarship Office may reduce student loan amounts. This may mean that spent loan amounts may have to be paid back immediately. For more information on how scholarship awards can affect federal student loans, please consult directly with the University Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid.

Many of CSBS's scholarships are provided by donors. If you are awarded a donor-based scholarship you will be required to do the following:

  1. Write a letter of thanks to the scholarship donor (or family)
  2. Supply a color photograph (high resolution, professional quality) and biographical information for the creation of a spotlight which the dean's office will send to the donor of your scholarship.
  3. Attend a scholarship program where you can meet your donor in person
