Publish Date: Mar 28, 2017

Deadline: Apr 23, 2017

Visiting Researchers Programme

The Visiting Researchers Programme is a key resource in BOFIT’s research work. The programme offers researchers during their visits, which last four-six weeks, the opportunity to focus on their research work, cooperate with BOFIT’s economists and participate in BOFIT’s active seminar and research programme. Priority is given to empirical research projects focusing on the Russian and Chinese economies.

CALL FOR AUTUMN/WINTER 2017 – DEADLINE 23 APRIL 2017

BOFIT Visiting Researchers scheme enables academics and researchers to spend a period of time conducting research at Bank of Finland Institute for Economies in Transition (BOFIT) in Helsinki. BOFIT accepts applicants who can make a compelling case regarding how their presence and work will complement our research environment as well as enhance BOFIT's research profile. We value applications with properly worked-out, realizable research objectives to be pursued during the visit at BOFIT. Scholars focusing on the Russian or Chinese economy will be given priority. Joint projects as well as other possible interaction with regular BOFIT staff are highly appreciated.

Timing

Visiting Researchers may start at any time during the year, subject to agreement between each individual researcher and BOFIT.

Duration

Research visits normally run for between four to six weeks, but shorter visits for senior scholars may also be considered.

Applicants

Applicants will be of post-doctoral status or at final stages of their PhD studies.

Relationship with BOFIT

We encourage Visiting Researchers to participate fully in the research life of BOFIT, for example through attending BOFIT research seminars, seminars run by the Bank of Finland Research Unit and other events related to research. We expect Visiting Researchers to give a seminar on their research whilst they are visiting BOFIT, and to submit a paper to our Discussion Paper Series.

Funding

BOFIT offers salary commensurate with the Visiting Researcher’s professional background, experience and the Bank of Finland wage scale. We also shall reimburse economy class travel cost once from home to Helsinki and back.

Computer facilities and desk space

Visiting Researchers will be provided with a Bank of Finland login and email address, enabling them to use computer facilities at BOFIT. We will provide office space as well as access to all BOFIT facilities, including data and computer resources as well as Bank of Finland and BOFIT libraries.

Accommodation

BOFIT helps in finding accommodation in Helsinki during the visit. BOFIT does not, however, cover accommodation expenses for visitors.
