Introduction to Management Analytics in Industry
Quantative Methods and Data Analytics.
A short introduction for anyone interested in the intriguing world of big data analytics, particularly its application in Industry. No previous mathematical or progamming skills are required. The aim of the course is to provide conceptual understanding of the fascinating world of data rather than subject students to complicated mathematical derivations and computer programming.
The course has been developed for students who have not previously specialised in quantitative methods. Although students who have done some introductory courses in statistics may consider this a refresher and hopefully also extend their grasp of applied analysis.
Our world - and management in particular - is becoming increasingly data-driven. In fact, we believe that understanding the world of data is the essential skill of the 21st Century. For example, the active management of consumer data is becoming a critical competitive advantage in a world where marketing can no longer rely on media that deliver mass audiences and where we are losing our tolerance for unwanted promotions.
This course has been created specifically for students who do not come from a computer programming or statistical background, but who recognise that the world of work is being transformed; and that at least a conceptual grasp of the world of big data analytics may give them competitive advantages in their careers. While computer programming skills are not required, students should have a reasonable grasp of Microsoft Excel and be comfortably numerate.
The course is structured to introduce key theoretical principles, ranging from the basics of probabilities in statistical analysis to machine learning; and from simple regressions to artificial neural networks, which students will get opportunities to explore and develop in practicals.

Students on management programmes or anyone else interested in developing a greater awareness and conceptual understanding along with some basic competencies in the worlds of data-driven management.
