Patrick Riordan Memorial Research Award in Florida Studies

The University of South Florida Libraries’ Florida Studies Center in Tampa, FL, invites applications from graduate students for a month-long, in-residence research project. The Patrick Riordan Memorial Research Award offers $2,500 to an M.A. student or Ph.D. candidate engaged in research on a Florida studies topic. The successful applicant will be invited to share his or her research in congenial public forums during the research period.

The Florida Studies Center has extensive collections and faculty expertise in many areas, including but not limited to: Tampa/Hillsborough history, modern Florida politics, foodways, agriculture, anthropology, African American history, Native American history, literature, geography, environmental studies, sociology, women’s studies, LGBT issues, immigration and mutual aid societies, and the history of the University of South Florida, including the Johns Committee [Florida Legislative Investigation Committee].

Applicants for the award should submit a résumé or c.v., a reference letter, and a proposal of 750-1,000 words that clearly details the nature of the study and how specific resources and holdings at the University of South Florida Libraries and other local institutions are crucial to their research interests.

The deadline is June 9th, and the award may be taken anytime between June 15 and August 15. Applicants must be enrolled in a graduate degree at an accredited institution and be a U.S. citizen.
