PhD Top-Up Scholarship
Description
Are you a high performing Australian chemical engineering or science student (or graduate), looking to play a major role in the growth of the exciting new global bioplastics industry? We are offering prestigious scholarships to people with the potential and drive to help us to lead the transition to a new plastics economy, focusing on the development of exciting new PHA based biodegradable bioplastics and biocomposites. In this PhD, you will work as part of a world leading research team, partnering with global companies and with access to major global advocacy groups like the Ellen Macarthur Foundation. At the end of the PhD, you will be positioned to play a significant role in this rapidly growing industry.
Biodegradable bioplastics and biocomposites will be pivotal in the transition to a more sustainable plastics economy, with the production capacity of the important biodegradable biopolymer PHA being estimated to more than triple in the next five years. It is estimated that, in Europe alone, the number of people employed in the bioplastics sector could increase by more than ten-fold by 2030, with up to 300,000 high-skilled jobs being created.
